Have you ever been there, or are you just an elitist once again talking about something you know nothing about? The Democrat software they were using to tally the votes CRASHED either by mistake or on purpose. Nobody knows. It had NOTHING to do with the people of Iowa who normally VOTE DEMOCRAT. But you didn't know that did you? You just assumed it was a rural, Republican state. It's not.
The Democrats will never let Bernie Sanders take the nomination, and they certainly didn't want him to win Iowa. They took it from him like they did in 2016 when Hillary won 100% of the coin tosses. I've been saying for months here on this forum. Check my post history.
They need to give up on the arcane, secret, caucus process, and just go to a primary.
Iowa hangs on to the Caucus which is not an official Primary, which allows them to go first. Going first means enormous sums of money are spent in the state.
New Hampshire was the first state to abandon the Caucus and is the first primary.
While Caucus looks like fun, it has outlived its purpose.
The DNC recommended state switch to primaries. 8 states continue to prefer Caucus. Turnout tends to be poor because of the commitment of people’s time.
I never paid much attention but watched coverage of the caucus process last night. It was kinda cool seeing real participatory democracy in action, but when it comes down to it, the effect is voter suppression. I mean after a busy day at work, people with kids are not going to come out and go to a caucus for 2 hours. Quaint as it is, it needs to go.
The winner: clearly Buttigieg based on exit polling and observation because he appealed across all the different demographics and may even have the top state delegate total.
The one cheated: Buttigieg, because he did not get the chance to claim his victory and get the headlines.
The loser(s): Bernie who did abysmally with older voters regardless of his total. He is unelectable in the general. Biden who might be in fourth place and was soundly rejected by young voters.
What seems clear is that Yang and Steyer did not do well. That was obvious by the relatively small size of the Causus in those camps who then has to move to their second choice. What is not clear is the second choice in 1700 precincts.
This process declared Ted Cruz in first place in the Republican caucus in Iowa in 2016. It did however, weed out the large Republican field.

Caucuses are not "secret". Much less so than traditional voting, in fact.
...caucus-goers simply walk over and stand in the part of the room designated to their first-choice candidate. Once everyone has chosen a candidate (or chosen to remain undecided) caucus leaders count everyone and do a little math. Those participants whose first-choice candidates fail to reach what’s known as the “viability threshold”—typically 15% of the total present — must decide which candidate to support next, in a process called “realignment.”...
So, in fact, everyone in the room can see how everyone else votes. That's not terribly "secret", if you ask me.
