Maybe if we do nothing and keep on our current path, things will just get better. Better not risk changing anything now, huh? Have you ever calculated the economic effect of climate change? Scientists and economists have. Have you considered the risk to our national security from the effects of climate change? The Pentagon has as well.
The choices are not limited to "Green Revolution" and "do nothing".

This is posing language. Everybody wants that radical chic.

Sagan
Nice, but I wish you had posted it in a form that would allow people to easily copy-and-paste.

We don't really have anyone like Carl Sagan today - the closest being Neil deGrasse Tyson, who doesn't seem to command the same kind of respect.

While you're worried about the economy taking a dive from a Green Revolution, could you force yourself to consider the exact opposite? A booming economy with real jobs in the energy and manufacturing sector as we reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and increase our reliance in the emerging technologies of wind and solar power?

No one is advocating we all replace our gas furnaces with windmills and rechargeable batteries, we are talking about a gradual introduction and inclusion of new sources of power, and we are (or could be) the technological giant in the world in this regards. The only thing holding us back is ourselves.

And you immediately make it about politics.

Typical.

It's too many people, but since that doesn't fit your political agenda...

Maybe the computer games had something to do with it, but whatever it was, Sagan was so right.

Don't forget revoking the Fairness Doctrine. In the 80's and 90's that lead to talk radio and television no longer having to present different perspectives on compelling public interests.

Yes... the science is out there, it's just a question of public will and imagination.
