Trump is a step closer from the status quo to Libertarian ideals......at least compared to the current crop of far left wing "progressives".

Libertarian's big problem is that too many demand purity to Libertarian ideals instead of supporting steps in the right direction.

It's why many Americans who may be sympathetic to at least some parts of Libertarian philosophy will never vote Libertarian.

Sometimes, Libertarians are their own worst enemy

I whole heartedly support her observing the oath she took to defend this country including the integrity of our elections. She did not take an oath to do whatever it takes to get re-elected.

While I agree with your assessment of Libertarianism, I don't see how Trump is Libertarian at all. Hillary Clinton would have been a step closer to Libertarianism compared to Trump (which isn't saying much). Trump hasn't espoused a single Libertarian policy but has promoted big government interference at nearly every possibly opportunity.

The kabuki that is a SOTU address is sophomoric melodrama on its best day. What was originally designed to be a one page report from the President to the two chambers o Congress has turned into a well dressed simulacrum of pro wrestling, a la "let me tell ya something, Mean Gene, I'm gonna rip Nancy's arm off and then beat her tag team partner Schumer over the head with it!!"

Her silliness at the end was just an exclamation point to anyone thinking "wow, this whole thing is absurd."

Party of the President (any President, either party, since at least the dawn of TV) cheers on command like trained seals every single time he says anything, party opposing the President makes big theater of sitting on their hands, making faces, sighs, gasps and eye rolls, guests get used as theater props that always reminds me of the scene in "300" where Xerxes uses people as a footstool as he descends from his carried throne, Dem women wear white to present some sort of illusory allegory that Nancy Pelosi herself gave women the right to vote, not Susan B Anthony and Alice Paul, and oh by the way, America is back on track because we singled out one kid to attend a school of her choice, which every American should be able to do were it not for literally every single elected official in this room right now.

Top to bottom, it's an exercise in propaganda. The Party (which is what I call whoever is in charge at that moment) broadcasts various "love Big Brother" mantras and party faithful are required to cheer, clap, whistle etc to signal loyalty to the person in charge, and the opposition treats it like The Two Minute Hate, where they signal their bona fides by how thoroughly they express their disdain for this moment's Emmanuel Goldstein.

Everything about it reads like a 4th grader's first stab at a soap opera screen play set in a political world.

So what is Pelosi's tearing up of the speech in that context? As I said, nothing more than an exclamation point on the absurdity of the entire thing, and by "thing" I mean organized government entirely. Here's why I am an anarchist - I see the entire government as petty, tyrannical, idiotic and sophomoric as Pelosi tearing up that speech. Whenever any of them speak, do something, write something down...I see/hear/feel Pelosi's tantrum in my mind's eye. They are all, exactly = to Pelosi's tantrum and childishness.

So I think she helped Trump prove what I and the other residents of Anarchistan have been saying for years - the whole thing is insane, and it baffles the mind why more people can't see it. How many more acts of this theater of the absurd do you need to see before the pattern recognition happens?

I would not have torn up the transcript of the speech.

Then again, I would not have ignored Pelosi’s attempt to shake hands, as Trump did.

The masses love political theatre and politicians deliver.

The majority of Americans support his impeachment. Even the legal system has recognized Trump and his family are corrupt. They can't run a charity because they steal. Impeachment was worth it.

Well stated.

Imagine a SUTU delivered from the Oval without an audience, visual aids, props, stunts or applause.

The Trumpsters can join with the OJ supporters and New England Patriots fans and celebrate their "victory".
