You can have sympathy for them as persons, but it is what it is. They know the rules and the risks. Buying a house with a temporary visa is a risky move. Many of they are younger people who can adopt to such change easily. I have worked with them for 25+ years, and I do not consider them an enemy, since their only crime is accepting jobs US companies offer them. Back in the 90s there were lot of Brits and Australians around, but now it is almost exclusively Indians. I still stay in touch with the people I worked with back then, although most have returned to their home countries.
Having said that, getting a mortgage with H1B visa is not impossible, but certainly not easy.

in theory, Finn answered the ? - this person has 60 days to find a new job that will handle his H1-B permit. If he doesn't then it's time to go home.
Conversely, in theory, one wonders why his sponsoring company played a role in renewing his H1B if he was deemed not of unique skill not available in a US Citizen, instead deemed expendable.
Or he will g nvert to a h4 dependent on his husbands( wifes) h1b and live happily ever after as long as her wife has her h1b.
That's nice. I believe in extreme reductions of H1bs, but I also know people who are H1b's and have had kids in my kids schools for 8 years...haven't been able to get green cards due to companies going under and such and all their progress being lost. Good people, tax payers, kids are exemplary classmates and students.
People need to look in the mirror when they start losing their humanity.

The law should not consider any of that. That's why the "lady justice" statue has a blindfold on.
Twice in my IT career, my position was "eliminated" but I still had to train someone in another country to do the same tasks. The first time I had a new position waiting for me. The second, I was out of work (with severance pay) for 4 weeks. Based on my experience, if their kids were born here, they will have an easier time coming back when they are 18.
Do you have sympathy for anyone who loses their job?
Yes. I have sympathy for experienced American citizen IT workers who get laid off and replaced by H1-Bs. to add insult to injury, if these Americans want severance pay, they are forced to train their replacements.
