This is just a clip of Los angles. It is probably one of the worst in the U.S. but it gives some idea......
That's a good example but ...... it's really, really important for all people who say they don't see poverty in their own states to keep in mind that the vast majority of poor homeless people seen in the west coast cities are not from the west coast. They are nearly all arrivals from other American states where people with their heads in the sand say they don't see poverty in their home states.
Those poor displaced homeless people are refugee representatives of their own states of origin and of the whole country, they're not from the west. They go west looking for the land of milk and honey where they can at least hope to survive as homeless outdoors in the milder west coast climate and what they find is more homeless and poverty stricken people than you can shake a stick at, all from other states east of the western coastal states. This puts a huge burden on west coast's tax paying citizens who are actually contributing to their state's economies.
That is a good point, the average income in the world is around $2K, and to be in the top 1% of incomes worldwide only takes an income of about $32,400 - there are some on welfare in the US getting more than that in benefits. Most Americans are part of the 1% when measured against the world economy.
Umm, what is the housing cost where those people are earning $2k a year? Its not the common $1000 (and up) a month rent here. Add utilities onto that. Cant ride your goat to work on the expressway here. Thus gotta pony up money for transportation. Food is higher priced. In those tropical third world countries if you want to eat fresh produce, its cheap. Here its highly processed high carb crap that is cheap.
Its relative. In countries with low incomes, cost of living is also lower. Its not about absolute amounts its about how much your income will buy. True necessities, not plastic consumer crap you can get for pennies at thrift store. I can go buy a working tv at thrift store for $10. Hardly a sign of great wealth as you claim. But nobody is renting out rooms for equivalent of sweeping the floor for two hours as once was possible....
Making things up again. 45% of Floridians are not making it? lol Explain why the poverty level of 14% is more than triple in Florida......
Because it's Florida, and for the exact same reason that so many poverty stricken people from other states go to the west coast too. It's warmer in the winter and more survivable.
I must live in a different world from the Democrat candidates because I do not see any poverty and doomsday scenarios that the Democrat candidates describe. If they're fighting against this current economy, I'd say that is a losing scenario.
I'm guessing you live in a very narrow world, and that includes a very narrow experience of news. If you read a little more broadly, you wouldn't need to "see" poverty to understand that it exists. That's the way that informed voters learn about the world.
You might want to take a trip to Los Angeles, where I was just shocked at all the tents set up by the poor/homeless.

what did you expect to happen when you encourage the poor, the destitute, and those here illegally to come and live?
typical liberals, create a problem and ask others to fix it. Sorry, it's your problem, it was your creation. Deal with it!..

The OP never said it doesn't exist. That's just something you and other posters have made up. The OP specifically stated " I do not see any poverty and doomsday scenarios that the Democrat candidates describe."
You even quoted it. So how about you quit making things up?
No party, democrat or Republican is responsible for the homeless/poverty situation in America. It's a byproduct of a booming economy that has caused property values to rise so high that a landlord can ask virtually anything he wants to rent out a hovel in desirable places like San Francisco and Los Angeles. When a LL raised his rent for a 1+1 from 2K to 4K in San Francisco proper then naturally the tenant earning $10/hr cannot afford it and has to move or be evicted and permanently stain their rental history. All tenants nowadays undergo a 7-point history check before they're allowed to rent: income, employment history, FICO score, criminal background, sexual convictions, lawsuits filed against landlords, and rental history. Score badly in any of these and your rental application goes right into the trash bucket and the LL goes right on to the next app. How many people in that video do you think could score well on even one of those points?
