A big difference between radical liberals/communists and everyone else is their desire to punish dissent.

Criminalizing Dissent

Louis Shenker, a 21-year-old junior at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, just wanted his MAGA hat back from the graduate student who ripped it off his head on campus. He wore the hat to a December 6, 2018 protest organized by the university’s graduate student union against Trump and local police. Video shows that when Louis, who is 5’6’’ and 140 pounds, arrived wearing the MAGA hat and holding a large sign, he was immediately surrounded by a hostile mob of older grad students cursing at him and calling him a white supremacist. A woman lunged from the mob and snatched Louis’s MAGA hat.

...
A month later, Louis was horrified to recognize the woman who stole his MAGA hat as Beth Peller, a 36-year-old grad student who would be teaching his mandatory freshman writing class.

...
On November 12, 2019, Louis found himself sitting behind Beth Peller at an anti-Israel event, called Criminalizing Dissent, organized by the head of his university’s communications department, Professor Sut Jhally. Featuring Linda Sarsour and terrorism supporter Omar Barghouti, who was skyped in from Ramallah, the event promoted the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

The account details Shenker's ordeal all the way through the court system.

Here's the summary.

We believe that more malicious prosecutions like Louis’s are likely; brought, at first, in progressive enclaves like Northampton where the far left holds real political power. Much as occurred in the Jim Crow South, authorities in such places are increasingly choosing to enforce their political ideology instead of the rule of law entrusted to them. The American left these days is unable to accept defeat under fair rules of play, whether in elections or in judicial proceedings. To avoid defeat, leftists will continue searching for ways to criminalize dissent. Indeed, Beth Peller’s attorney argued to the court in Northampton that defamation and offensive speech can and should be criminalized. This is a dangerous trend, and is becoming one of the major civil rights issues of our time.

I don't understand. So Lois was a Trump supporting man that had his property stolen by an angry gang that surrounded him in December of 2018 and then less than a year later he is a full blown Democrat standing behind the radical that stole his property at an Anti Israel rally?

What the heck kind of brainwashing was he subjected to in that writing class?

I can't post the entire article, you have to read it. He planned to protest at the anti-Israel event. Regarding the rally...

A proud Zionist Jew, Louis let university police know that he planned to challenge the speakers at an appropriate moment. Just before he stood up in protest, he put on his new “Keep America Great” hat, and Beth, who had been smiling at him until then, looked at him with the shock of realization. He told her he knew who she was -- that she was the person who had stolen his MAGA hat, and that he still wants it back. He made his brief protest, thanked the police for letting him do it, and left.

After that happened...

With help from two lawyers, one of whom is active with the anti-Zionist group Jewish Voice for Peace, Beth filed a sworn affidavit in district court in Northampton, MA. The affidavit falsely alleged that Louis is a “self-avowed white nationalist who “intended to inflame violence” against her; that Louis was “whispering threats in [her] ear” at the BDS event; and that Louis had “talked about guns and decapitating small animals with his hands” while in her class. Based on these fantasies, a judge issued an Abuse and Harassment Prevention Order against Louis, which directed him not to contact her.

You will have to read the rest.

Terrible story. If he can prove his side, I see big dollars coming his way.

Dude context is easy.

1 Louis Shenker, a 21-year-old junior at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, protested an anti Trump rally as a counter protester.
2 At said rally, his Trump hat was stolen by a professor named Beth Peller who is the teacher of a required course Shenker was forced to take. He changed his appearance and she did not recognize him. He managed to get an A by regurgitiating typical SJW stupidty.
3) He later attended an Anti Semitic rally as a counter protester. Beth Peller then **** (why is it starring (t o o k)?) it upon herself to prosecute Mr Shenker for stalking and similar crimes. This resulted in several charges and court orders.
4) Most of said court orders have been dismissed, however, he is still being prosecuted for some charges.

I wonder if there is more to this. I wonder this because:
1) APPARENTLY they are still prosecuting even without evidence?
2) The posters printed and put up are not harassment?
3) Why has some giant right wing cause shark lawyer taken this one. This looks like a juicy settlement waiting to happen on the surface.

Dont have time to chase down any counter arguments. American Thinker (the sole source I am looking at) may be 100% (or 0%) accurate in their presentation.

Again, if correct, scary and Beth Peller and others need to be prosecuted for filing false reports.

Thanks for summarizing.

Usually I can get enough quote material to get the proper context - that was a tough one.

My point is posting this is not so much the settlement - but the undertaking to even fathom suing free speech and free thought as a weapon against political opposition.

I agree with you *IF* Mr Shenker is not guilty of any of the charges/ complaints. I see big money coming his way should he shown not guilty of all charges, especially the posters saying he himself has not self identified as a white supremacist. See the Oberlin College / Bakery court case for an example.

I do not know the whole story. The internet skews more stories than it tells neutral and I cannot tell if this story is correctly told without leaving out important details.

Fun angle: Civil rights case using Jewish as aggrieved group for BIG money. I wonder if they are coordinating with Linda Sarosaurus. Might be a fun angle.

Yep, I cannot trust American Thinker any more than Mother Jones to tell me the other side of the story.

Just like whenever you see really salacious news stories with "according to X's lawsuit" as if it were fact and not just someones assertion. (like the US womens soccer team pay dispute, wow that was a whopper.)
