The USA should strive to emulate what it has always been - a place where people can have freedom of speech, freedom of movement, freedom of belief and opinion. Always working to fine-tune how we ensure the safety and prosperity of everyone, just as we have been for many decades.

Of course it is a fallacious argument that anyone out here in the heartland believes that there is anything wrong with the fundamentals of our country. It does make for a feel-good talking point - to have a straw-man to react against.

I don't want radical socialism or communism either.
  • Universal healthcare (M4A or public option)
  • Affordable debt-free college for the academically qualified
  • Living wage, so full time workers can support themselves without gov't assistance
  • Limiting disproportionate corporate power in Washington DC
All of the above are mainstream FDR-style Democratic platform items. Not even close to "socialism" or "communism."

Why can't the USA be the model to be emulated.

We should have the brain power, the will, the talent to be leading the world in everything from looking after our planet, to new technologies, to how we care for our own people and others in the world who are less fortunate.
We should, but nearly half our country wants to base our entire society around a 3000 year old book, wants to deny science because it contradicts that book, and believe America was at its best in the middle of the 20th century and doesn’t need to move forward.

Correct. There was nothing "medical" about it. He just smoked it for fun.

Then which Republican candidate are you going to vote for? With every Dem candidate offering a variation of socialism or communism.

Possibly excepting Bloomberg, who has not said what he is offering.

Only those who spend all their time reading right-wing propaganda believe that.

And I hardly think there are any republicans these days who want to emulate Canada or Denmark. So there are none we would want to vote for.

Why does the US need to emulate any of them?

Is it not possible to look to other countries for ideas on how to solve issues here? Hell, the US started that way, what, you think rights of citizens was something the US created? The method of government was something created by the US? No, this was built upon the back of ideas and actions throughout history.

TRANSLATION: I can't refute what you said, but I hate it anyway. So I'll call it names instead, and hope somebody somewhere believes me.
