No one has asked Idaho what they think about this idea that I've seen. Or what the folks in the Spokane metro think about this idea.
I doubt Idaho wants that extra territory. There's nothing in it that makes the lands desirable or extra-special for Idaho, and the folks in Spokane, by far the largest city in the region, would suddenly find themselves paying more taxes as Idahoans than they ever paid as Washingtonians.
Idaho wouldn't be prepared to take on Spokane's problems, and the problems of the other cities in the new territory. Idaho has 44 counties already, and no one wants more of them.
It's nothing more than another self-sorting pipe dream. It's less grandiose than Cascadia or the United States of the Northwest, but it's just as fanciful.
I am not sure Spokane is part of this, Idaho would gain political power and a coast!
I don't know, we are a very divided nation. A socialist favored to win the Democratic nomination. These are some strange times. If the people were allowed to vote and determine things, this would have already happened.
Right. Then King County can wait in line to see the government doctor. In their Priuses.
If government healthcare is so bad, get rid of Medicare and the VA. Cut off health coverage for those coal miners too. In the mean time the rest of Washington can be rid of us and parts of Oregon can join Idaho.
If some rural counties split off from Oregon and join Idaho, I would presume that Oregon would lose some number of electoral votes (maybe as few as just 1) while Idaho would gain them. Much as I would love to see this happen, I don't foresee Oregon's legislature voluntarily giving up some of its state's power.
Nearly half of Oregon's population lives in the Portland metropolitan area (excluding the WA state counties). Add in Lane, Benton, and Marion counties, majority of the state's population is concentrated there. Oregon might lose 2 electoral votes, but not much more. And you have to consider this. More people want to move to Portland and Eugene. What Oregon loses in counties, Oregon might get back in people moving to the Willamette Valley.
Let them join Idaho then let Northwest Washington join Canada. Wins all around.

No, Seacove just dreams of having some sort of a liberal Shangri-La, used to be it was seceding and forming a new country, now I guess it's becoming part of Canada. Never gonna happen though, the Navy's only Pacific Fleet SSBN base is here, the only west coast dry dock that can take Nimitz and Ford class carriers, a one of a kind ship recycling installation, and a ton of other things the navy isn't going to let go of. If we could put King County on a barge and send it up to Victoria, few in the rest of the state would miss it.
