I spent a few weeks in Victoria, Republic of Seychelles in 2004. Everything was govt price controlled, the black market was rampant, even in fuel and currency exchange. Only those in government seem to have any money.
Seychelles is one of the smallest countries (about 90K people total) so theoretically the communist ideal could potentially work, but I certainly saw problems.
My wife used to have a friend that visited Cuba twice and she thought it was wonderful and the people so good and kind.
I wrote "used to" because when she found out that we preferred Trump over Hillary and I voted for him she went on a rant, trashed me on facebook and ended a 20 year friendship with my wife. Oh well her loss. She was a weirdo anyway and there is no doubt that this woman is a Bernie supporter today.
My inlaws live in Ireland and they border on socialism with their healthcare and other social programs along with the high taxes to pay for it all.
Conservatives will continue to try and convince themselves that liberals are pure socialists because they don't really truly know how debate reality. Easier to compare the socialist programs to Venezuela or apparently East Germany in the 70s than to admit that the countries that the liberals really want to learn from are countries where people are happy and doing well (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Canada....).
FWIW, I have been to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and I married a Canadian so I spend a lot of time there. People are happy, systems work. We are bigger and can't do exactly what they do but we as a larger and wealtheir country, we should actually be able to do even better. Socialist programs within a thriving Capitalist society is a clear win.
Typical post from the right that uses misinformation to try to make a bogus point.
East Germany was communist.
Norway is a good example of Democratic Socialism, which is exactly what Bernie wants.
I have been to Norway twice. Beautiful country. Well run. Pro-business, respects property rights and intellectual property rights. High standard of living. Very deep safety net for its population.
Even a strongly capitalist country like Singapore has "socialist" policies. 80% of Singaporeans live in public housing. They also have universal health coverage. They also have a large tax on automobiles to control traffic, which is a good idea for a small country with limited space. On the other hand, they probably have the BEST public transport system in the world. They also have excellent public schools that always top the charts in terms of test scores.
The US Government gives subsidies to farms - 40+ billion dollars per year. Trump increased the farm subsidies with his trade war. Energy companies also get free money from the government and so does the sugar industry get billions of free money from the government. Socialism is already in the US. These programs are favorites of rural americans which vote Republican. They love socialism when the free money is given to them.
"'Trump money' is what we call it," Henry said. "It helped a lot. And it's my understanding, they're going to do it again."...$16 billion in trade-related aid to farmers. It came on top of the previous year's $12 billion package, for a grand total of $28 billion in two years.

Funny how the libs always pick countries with few minorities as ones for emulation.
It's funny how Rumann Koch (related to the Koch brothers?) is trying to equate Sanders' democratic socialism to East Germany as part of a systematic scare-tactic to destroy his presidential nomination.
It's unfortunate though that Americans in general are just too dumb to fall for it.
So you're not going to comment on specific aspects of my personal story which I shared or share a story of your own of visiting a Socialist country... but instead call me a dumb American!
BTW: my ID is more related to the Bacardi family than it is to the Koch Bros.

Canada visible minority (non-white): 22.3%
You also must have missed my comment above regarding Singapore, which technically isn't a democratic socialist country, but they have some strong socialist policies (as I have mentioned above).
