The timing is coming out in the news. The patient went to the ER on the 15th, so anyone she infected before being hospitalized has long since been contagious. That's at least 3 weeks, so the early birds have gone on to infect another generation. There are likely hundreds of undetected cases running around.
Other news from the Bay Area is that container ships are declining to enter the port. Expect shortages of imported goods.
