The term is attempt to legitimize them - as if they were Americans who just lacked former paper work.
Progressive heros, like Huerta, are wolves in sheeps clothing. She was part of the movement in the late 60s and 70s that was fighting to have Mexicans recognized as a minority group.
Back then they complained,"Why does all the funding go to the blacks! What about our issues?". They lobbied for the inclusion of "hispanic" on the census, just so they could get their hands on this money. And they schemed some way to outnumber black people by inventing an arbitrary ethnic definition.
Now they want to make sure that all the illegal aliens living in this country are counted so they can get an even larger share of the funding.
This kind of manipulation is where large "hispanic" statistics come from. Everyone who is related to a person that once spoke spanish is pressured to identify as "latino" on the census so organizations can use these statistics to demand funding.
Oh jeez. Just staaap already with your obsessive Hispanophobia.

He was pointing out that it has been liberals and open-border advocates that are so obsessed with "Hispanic". Naturally you couldn't refute any of it, so you are trying to pretend he said something else. Rather than just acknowledge he's right.
this is money that is set aside for minorities, and the "latino" group is desperate to bolster their numbers so they can get a larger share of this money to fund their organizations (and not those of black people). This is why they were celebrating when they became the largest minority group in the 2000s - because then they could claim "we have the numbers" and demand a larger proportion of the funding.
Why should foreign nationals who are not supposed to be living in the united states be tabulated for this purpose?
Everybody should be counted. That is why it's a census.
I also think pets should be counted. Interesting to know how many and which types of pets we all own.
But only citizens should get representation in regards to how electoral votes for each state is determined, etc. So, IMO there needs to be a way to determine if they are citizens or not on the census and kept separate for that purpose.
