So I listened to some updates yesterday and still knowing what we know about this virus we still aren't testing the way we should.
On Wednesday Mike Pence said CDC expanded guidelines for any doctor to approve testing for those who have symptoms of coronavirus --not limiting to those who recently traveled, yet states aren't complying. Oregon won't test unless you've traveled out of the country recently to countries with outbreak or came directly in contact with someone who tested positive.
Florida also is limiting testing........this will only further spreading by keeping numbers appearing low but not reflective of true numbers per state.
We need to test thousands more in every single state. We cannot ignore this and not test. Its not going to go away. Iran had over 1,000 new cases since yesterday.
Washington state only has 200 test kits right now so they're essentially being rationed. Doctors just telling people with symptoms to self quarantine. Infection numbers wildly under-reported because of that.
When you have a moron like Trump who appoints a science averse, religious nutjob Vice President to be the point man in our response to the crisis, well, don't expect a favorable outcome.
There would have to be some kind of advance notice and also some kind of rationing and scheduling of shopping so that people would not go out all at once and clean out the shelves, but I don't see how that could be planned and implemented within a month or so.
Yeah....not impossible, but probably wont happen.
I recall NY rationing gas with some odd/even license plate number system after 9/11.
And really, we have already been given advance notice either directly or reading between the lines that actual or self imposed quarantines maybe become necessary in any city USA.
How is it that we're such a rich nation, supposedly all that and a bag of chips, when other nations like South Korea, China, and Italy have been able to test at drastically greater volume than we are? And not only are we the richest, we also had the benefit of like two months of foresight into this situation. Epidemiologists and doctors are pointing out daily how we've dropped the ball on this.
Why isn't Trump's CDC appointee kicking some asses over there? Why isn't Trump? I think he realizes this is already a **** show, which is why he shoved Mike Pence into the spotlight to take the hit.
If you don't even have working capacity to test at scale, you're in the dark as to the real current scope of the problem you're trying to tackle. How can you be successful this way?
We are such a pathetic popsicle stand.
Because our CDC would not use the test provided by WHO.
We had to go off and try to create our own test which is defective.

They don't need no stinkin' CDC test kits!
UW developed its own and has rolled it out....
Quote:
The UW Medicine lab got the green light to begin testing on Saturday. As of Tuesday, scientists had tested about 200 specimens, said Dr. Alex Greninger, the lab’s assistant director who headed the team that began working on a SARS-CoV-2 test in January, as soon as the virus’s genetic sequences had been mapped and made available to scientists around the world.
Greninger said the lab has capacity to test 1,000 samples a day, and is working to increase that number to 4,000 or 5,000 a day as the epidemic worsens, which it’s expected to do. The test is based on one developed by the World Health Organization.
If I get the Covid19, can I still go to the drive-thru at chic-fil-a or not?
As long as nobody who works at chick fila is sick.
