Trump could do a lot to repair his image of a shallow and uncaring boob by paying a visit to the nursing home facility or one of the cruise ships affected by the virus
That will NEVER happen, I just don't see him doing anything like that. Also, he probably will be advised against doing that, he is 73 years old. And my understanding is that he is a germaphobe.
I agree that lots of folks have no sense. I can’t do anything about most of them, but if someone I know decides to turn up at my house sick, I can refuse them entry. If someone goes in for a hug, I can take a big step back. I can ask people to wash their hands when they’re in my house. Social niceties are great, but I’m ok with bypassing them when needed.
And yes, it would be great if we could get everyone on the same page.
I learned all the social distancing stuff during the H1N1 pandemic basically because I was managing at a large organization that had a very robust approach to disseminating all that info.
A few years later when I was helping my father who was undergoing chemotherapy it all kicked in and I had no problem politely declining to shake hands(often with his doctors lol). I simply said sorry/no offense.....practicing social distancing so my dad doesn't catch anything from me while he's sick.
No one batted an eyelash. And if they thought anything about it, who cares?
So much for it being rare among people........as ye test, so shall you find.
They only tested a little over 40 people too. Most of the ones were crew, so they probably spread it all over. They are taking the ship to a non-commercial port, whatever that is to deal with it.
Testing is a "feel good" measure that governments take to make people "feel good."
It costs a lot of money but doesn't really accomplish anything other than placating people, you know, like you.
The corona virus isn't even half as deadly as SARS.
More people have died from the flu than corona.
I notice people's memory spans are quite short, too.
Everyone has forgotten about SARS and the avian flu, which we were told would be the end of the world but turned out to be nothing burgers.
Well, yeah. If I suspected I had the virus and got tested and it was negative, I'd feel pretty good, knowing that I won't pass it on to my elderly mother and everyone else in the home.
"This administration has treated proposals for universal healthcare with unalloyed disdain, even though any such system would give the government the ability to fight an emerging pandemic such as COVID-19 by taking over the cost from states and families. Instead, officials such as Seema Verma, the director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, has gone on the road to attack proposals such as “Medicare for all” and the public option as “radical socialist ideas.”
Medicaid is perhaps the prime target of the Trump healthcare wrecking crew. The Trump administration wants to hobble Medicaid by converting it to a block-grant program. The coronavirus shows exactly why that idea would be sheer folly..."
How is it that we're such a rich nation, supposedly all that and a bag of chips, when other nations like South Korea, China, and Italy have been able to test at drastically greater volume than we are? And not only are we the richest, we also had the benefit of like two months of foresight into this situation. Epidemiologists and doctors are pointing out daily how we've dropped the ball on this.
Why isn't Trump's CDC appointee kicking some asses over there? Why isn't Trump? I think he realizes this is already a **** show, which is why he shoved Mike Pence into the spotlight to take the hit.
If you don't even have working capacity to test at scale, you're in the dark as to the real current scope of the problem you're trying to tackle. How can you be successful this way?
We are such a pathetic popsicle stand.
Are you kidding? 11 people have died in a country of over 3 million. Give me a break. He's doing a fantastic job.
On Monday during a press conference, the Trump administration said that 1,000,000 test kits would be available by Friday.
They have failed to meet that deadline.
Not that I ever expect Donald Trump to admit to or learn from mistakes, but hopefully Pence and other members of the "task force" will think next time before setting a self-imposed deadline that they aren't positive they can meet.
People don't learn.
The bubonic plague in Europe
Europeans coming to the new world and nearly wipes out the native American population with small pox
The flu pandemic of 1918
Trying to contain corona is like trying to bail water with a screen wire bucket, usless.
If anything can be done, it's providing care for those that do get seriously ill.

Seriously? Here's the truth.
"If the true extent of the outbreak were known through testing, the American situation would look worse. But health-care officials and providers would be better positioned to combat the virus. Hard decisions require data. For now, state and local governments don’t have the information they need."
"Through interviews with dozens of public-health officials and a survey of local data from across the country, The Atlantic could only verify that 1,895 people have been tested for the coronavirus in the United States, about 10 percent of whom have tested positive."
https://www.theatlantic.com/health/a...avirus/607597/
And six states aren't testing at all yet. "Alabama, Maine, Ohio, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Wyoming are still listed as being “in progress” to setting up verified labs with diagnostic tests."
This is important for our country to know the true number of cases and respond accordingly like other developed countries have. Why the heck are we so behind? I don't want to hear about faulty CDC test. We as a country need to do better.
