??? The poster I was responding to was including numbers for China (where they've brought the virus somewhat under control) to negate or seemingly deny that it is rapidly expanding elsewhere.
That said, the numbers for S. Korea were much better today; those for Italy not. In the end this will, of course, be a global issue - no getting around that with China now worried about cases from overseas.
Got it! That you were saying the opposite.

Not if we don't test. We are safe if we don't test. If we start testing in earnest there will be 5000 by end of the week, maybe 10000. They are already there of course, just undetected.
I'd find another hospital if the folks at the one you're at are really that stupid. A flu outbreak at a hospital could kill dozens or more people in a hospital outbreak.
The numbers you are quoting are no where near the real numbers. Especially when so few people have been tested. If you just take the people who have already died (22) and assume 1% mortality its 2200 cases. And assuming that some that have it now but may die in a few days you could easily double that number again. In China they were only counting those admitted to the hospital as cases.
According to some virus experts I have read the virus will likely double every 6 days. So if its 2,000 today, 4,000 in 6 days, 8,000 in 6 more, 16,000 in 6 more 32,000 in six more so 64K in about a month from now. Do the math and you can see how it can be in the millions quite quickly.
And even if you take 488 to 566 that is doubling every six days. That is exponential growth.
The number I used came from a most respectable source. I suppose we should use numbers you pull out of your arse instead. What are you babbling about "doubling every six days"? I understand how exponential growth works. What I'm saying is that the numbers we have don't support it.
So basically, more tax cuts for the rich and gut the federal government response capabilities to pay for some of the tax cuts. The rest can be added to the debt which will be great in a recession when stimulus is needed...Or not... The free market and pandemics dont go hand in hand. At all. Neither does millions of people without health care and people going to work transmitting disease because they dont have or dare to take paid vacation time.
We need universal health care, strong labor rights like guaranteed paid vacation and a well funded federal government. And reign in the short-sighted and selfish greed of the top 0.1%. This virus does not care whether a person is rich or poor.
You can't put people on lockdown here in the states because we have a nasty habit of doing whatever the **** we wanna do regardless of how much sense the opposite makes.
