I honestly don't think the masks are working like we think they are.
We are not medical people. Only certain masks will block this stuff but for the general public we're going around with cloth and paper masks. The virus can pass through it albeit it will filter it so what you inhale is less.
It's not the unvaccinated.
It's not the "I won't wear a mask" people.
It's the virus...it's mutated. This one seems to spread like the common cold.
The only mask which is partially effective at stopping the particle size is the N95. This virus is hard to quantify. Numbers across the nation show rapid dramatic increase with less virulence (lethality) but higher contagion as you point out.
At this juncture it is a challenge to find reliable information.

Information today is a lagging indicator since they have to study the data over time.
With no history of this virus or vaccine no one can make any predictions or definite guidelines.
It's more like "let's try this" or "let's try that" and then wait and see what the data says.

I would disagree and encourage people to take a breath. We have the science to control to a larger extent each month. Though cases are spiking in some states it is not as lethal. So lets, as adults, model confidence for our children and grand children.

They used "the science" to say 50% for herd immunity. That didn't happen. Then 60% and then 70% and now they don't even talk about it.
There was ZERO basis to think we could achieve herd immunity with this virus because they know nothing about this virus and how it behaves.
Then they went on and on about the vaccine as if it were the holy grail...again not knowing what the future would hold.
We are sailing in unchartered waters.
And now...CDC says if we all mask up the surge will be gone in a few weeks.

The vaccine works and has been working. It's impossible to say the numbers of vaccinated people who are becoming ill with any reliable metric. We know that millions have not become ill due to the vaccine.
The cases now are far less severe than March 2020.

Here in the US..yes because the data is not being released. "Why do you need to know that ?"
In other countries though..the numbers are being released.
That info is available from hospitals.
The number of vaccinated people hospitalized but not in ICU and not dead.

You mean like the Ron DeSantis attempts to declare covid to be over and to try to only release Florida data once a week on the weekend when he thinks people pay attention? Yeah, I’m less than thrilled with Ronnie putting his Presidential aspirations ahead of the lives of Floridians. So case counts come out in dribs and drabs when someone figures out a way around DeSantis’ dictatorial approach to data control.
The DeSantis regime is also refusing to issues daily hospitalization counts at all-it’s private hospital lobbying groups down here putting those numbers out. Local hospitals in Florida are glad to send out press releases to local media and all report that the unvaccinated makes up 85-99% of their covid case loads.
