I thought liberals cared about bodily autonomy and our right to choose when it comes to our bodies. Turns out they think that our bodies belong to the government. “My body my choice” was nothing but a passing fad apparently.

The virus has been isolated. I'm puzzled by the belief that it has not. Here's a good article that breaks it down (as well as the allegation):

Viruses can't grow in a Petri dish on a sugar solution. They need a host's living tissue to reproduce. It's how they work.

Not true.

“If you’re really interested in knowing if you have the delta variant, you may want try out the polymerase chain reaction testing platforms, which looks at the genetic variations within the virus to determine its strains.”

Schools already sending kids home due to outbreaks.

“The 1,100-student Macon County district on Wednesday became the fourth district to suspend in-person classes, following the smaller Taliaferro, Glascock and Talbot counties in recent days. The four districts combined serve a fraction of 1% of Georgia’s 1.7 million students.

“The difference now in this outbreak that we see than the outbreak that happened last school year is that this seems to be more centered on kids…rather than adults, so that scares me to death,” Talbot County Superintendent Jack Catrett told WTVM-TV.””

Your own link says "However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can look at specific cases of the coronavirus through genetic sequencing. But there isn’t a specific test that will tell you if you have the delta variant."

Clayton County stopped in-person instruction at an elementary school because of COVID-19. In the Savannah-Chatham district, 230 of the district’s 36,000 students have tested positive, while more than 1,100 students have been quarantined because of exposure. Of roughly 5,000 employees, 36 have tested positive and another 72 are quarantined. Sumter County quarantined unvaccinated high school football players.
Less than 1% of students & faculty have tested positive.

Why weren't we doing this when less than 1% of kids had influenza? Especially since the flu is more deadly for kids than covid? Did we not care about kid's health then?

It’s clear that many people don’t care about kids mental health or their education.

Everyday we're hearing more cases of those fully vaccinated, still catching covid, still being able to spread covid so these vaccines are NOT working like they want people to think and no the narrative a vaccinated person will have lesser symptoms or not be hospitalized is not for the average person anyway, the majority recover at home just fine.
Unvaccinated account for 99.5% of Covid deaths in TX and somewhere in the range of 95-97% of hospitalizations, give or take.

He was negative for those variants even though he was positive for COVID. He's test was then sent to the Dept. of Health/CDC for random genome sequencing to determine exactly what it was. He doesn't get those results.

So, we know he has COVID, we know he doesn't have all the earlier variants. Since Delta is being found in 80% of sequenced samples one can assume he has Delta but, yeah, could be Lambda or whatever variant is floating around that's not part of the original 4.
This is reminiscent of how PCR testing was used last year to screen for those samples that should be fully sequenced. The virus has a long genome, and the tests cannot look for evidence of the whole code. Instead, they usually search for two or three sections. If present, that results in a positive. Based on the internal sequence pattern, there can also be a clue about the variant.

PCR testing might well be able to exclude certain variants. For example, the eek mutation is found for the South African variant (Beta) but then it also I believe exists for P1 (Gamma). A sample with an eek mutation - if that's included in the PCR test - cannot be B.117 or Delta but it would need sequencing to distinguish it between Beta and Gamma..

Last winter when B.117 first appeared there was minimal capacity to sequence positive PCR test results. However it was discovered the results could be used as a rough surrogate to monitor spread. If the "S" gene was found to be dropped in the PCR assays that increased the likelihood the sample was B.117 by about one-third if memory serves. If the "S" gene was present then the positive result could not be B.117. Practically this resulted in only sending results with the dropped "S" genes off to sequence to determine whether the sample was indeed B.117.

For example,
Quote:
If a sample with a variant that has the 69-70del mutation is tested using the TaqPath COVID-19 assay, it will result in an S gene “dropout.” Because of this, the test may signal the presence of the 69-70del mutation and, potentially, the B.1.1.7 lineage (variant 501Y.V1). Confirmation of the variant strain may be accomplished by sequencing. There are multiple options available for routine sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 clinical research isolates.

I would guess that PCR test sequences in the tests in use are updated as the virus mutates?

Schools did close for severe flu outbreaks.

From 2019:

“A handful of schools across the country closed this week as flu season picked up.

As of Jan. 19, a total of 22 children have died in connection with the flu so far this season, up from a total of 19 child deaths reported last week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”

https://www.usnews.com/news/health-n...son-progresses

Interesting that 22 deaths were considered enough to close schools in 2019, no?

As of April 2021, per the following, 297 kids had died from Covid.
How little some appear to value those young lives now.
