I dont know. Seems like just as I was beginning to understand what "woke" meant, I heard black commentators on TV saying it's not a thing anymore. Came and went pretty fast.

Woke is a recent name for a movement that has been brewing since the late 80s in American universities.

We can only hope it is mellowing.

So what was it called in the 80s? Maybe I could relate better to the older name.

Most broadly, post-modernism. It originated in France in the 50s and 60s. It's a rejection of objectivity and universality as a reaction against modernism. The various flavors of this movement go by lots of names, but what united them - from the perspective of this thread - is a rejection of empirical evidence that conflicts with closely held values. Hence the religious aspect.

The late 80s was when the "canon wars" and "science wars" started in American universities. The canon wars were won by the post-modernists, but the science wars were not. Woke is a strongarm tactic to pressure compliance where argument failed to convince scientists that change was needed.

I think wokeness is stronger in affluent settler nations like the USA, Canada, and Australia because you can't delve much into your nation's history without confronting blatant racism. Any normal person would feel at least some guilt at how their nation was founded and then began questioning the whole structure of their society. Most people in settler nations live in close enough proximity to other groups to understand those past injustices are still causing modern inequality.

If you are fairly poor by Western standards living in a homogeneous nation like Poland logically you'd feel less guilt because you have less privilege and your ancestor were indigenous to where you live.

It's funny when some leftist posters constantly complain about the right imposing its religious values on everyone else by law, but now the most oppressive statutory religiosity and conformist pressure is coming from the woke left.

Woke culture is mainly strong in the 5 eyes. What are the 5 eyes. 5 eyes are the white Anglo nations of the United States, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. These nations. The university systems of academia, the media and social media spread and share their ideas which bounce off of one another. You can do black lives matter in UK, United States and United Kingdom. But in Brazil, a trayvon Martin happens everyday. Try doing black lives matter in communist Cuba, or socialist Venezuela and you will see a massive police crackdown. Try doing gender and LGBT rights in Jamaica, and guyana both Anglo nations, however not part of the white Anglo Saxon system in terms of culture. To to the Mexican border and use the word latinx. The Mexicans won't understand the term latinx vs Americans and Canadians of woke stock thought. Canada, United States, Australia and New Zealand were colonized by quasi religious nuts from great Britain and many remained vs a place like Barbados, or a guyana, or a Jamaica which did not maintain a strong Anglo populace.

Not for nothing. I hope the Corona virus slows down and downgrade woke culture anglospheric 5 eyes nations.

If you want to know more about woke culture. Please read Douglas muarry's madness of the crowd in which he talks about woke culture and its issues regarding black, women lesbians Gays bisexuals and last transsexuals.

Also note that woke people are not liberals. They may refer themselves as liberals howevery tehy dont defend the small guy, and also woke folks are collectivists and not individualist. They are also not communists or facists, but have authoraterian leanings such as not being able to represent another culture, but at teh same time trying to promote globalism and open borders. Woke culture also want the benefits of capitalism such as products like iphones, and starbucks, yet wanting a socialist type of economy with a mix of equity being given to those who feel oppressed. I do not know how long this woke culture will last in the white Anglo world. In order for this wokeness to die down, the white Anglo world will need either a world war to bring people together, a major economic crash, a major disaster, or a natural disaster like the Corona Virus being and example of such.

Or the wokesters could just realize that it's a silly incoherent belief system as you laid out. Then they can go back to being normal and we can all just pretend it never happened.

In minute 31 he talks about Feminism and how Feminism is more pronounced in Anglo-Saxon culture and not in French culture. He is right. Example the Metoo movement has swept through the Anglo-Saxon white nations and has yet to sweep through France. In matter of fact in latin countries like France and Italy, the socities and culture there reject the metoo movement which did not have a postive feedback loop but a negative one. While the Anglo Saxon academic puts blame on sexism of French and Italian socities. Historically since Greek colonization, Regions and France and Italy have been patriarchal socities and remains so to this day.

My thing is this. If the Anglo Saxon wants to rid the world of racism, sexism, bigotry, homophobia, islamophobia etc. Why dont such Anglo Saxons start kiilling and whipping off other people around the world who do submit to thier ideologies? If I was woke, this would be the best solution.
