What happens if one or both presidential candidates dies during the campaign? At this point, all candidates for president are geriatric cases, where most of the Covid-19 fatalities are. By the time the nominating conventions happen in August, the disease should be raging. National conventions are a mob scene, and pressing the flesh is a big part of politics.
Making it worse is that campaigning is grueling, and puts a lot of strain on the candidates, both of whom will be elderly. It's not unlikely that one or both could die.
What do we do if that happens? Will the VP nominee take over the campaign? What happens if one dies after the election? Who gets inaugurated?
We may be glad we have an electoral college, which can name anybody president even if they did not run.
Will Trump soon start calling for a postponement of voting? I wouldn't be shocked.
Just like some sporting events are now being played with nobody in the stands, maybe some of the political theater/campaigning/debates will have to take place without a live audience. Not sure how the Trump rallies would go without everyone chanting and cheering in unison... that could be interesting.
Candidates postpone campaigns for a reason. There are technical aspects to postponing vs completely pulling out as far as I know, mostly related to donations and funding amassed.
IMO, even a dead candidate (God forbid!) would have about the same chance of beating Trump in the general election, as either of the current 'consolation candidates.' Honestly, is this really the best the Dems. can do in 2020? (One has already talked about the likelihood of only surviving one term).
Yes, I understand that emotion, hysterics and the media will play a big role among younger (naieve) and minority voters, but, these are not even "hold your nose and choose one" candidates. One would have thought the left learned something from nominating HRC in 2016 (Yes, the popular vote totals were different than the electoral college results, but, face it, we have an electoral college system and sensible candidates should run an electoral college campaign ... not spend their entire time in major population centers!)

Most of the left was saying the same thing about republicans in 2016: is that the best they can do? It still worked out for them in the end, right? So while you may think Sanders and Biden are losers, it's been proven that disgusting, boorish, loser personalities can win and segments of the population can become enchanted with them.
Forget the candidates...the majority of all those bigwigs in DC will be wiped out as they are all in the demographic age group.
That virus would decimate all levels of government.
Then who's left ? AOC and her minions...just think about that one
The fact that this is even a cause of worry is utterly pathetic.
I think it is an interesting question. I am not sure anyone is worried about it, just curious.
