Nope. Low oil and gas prices end up stimulating all segments of the economy except the oil and gas industry. Everybody has more money in their pockets, it costs less to transport goods, it costs less for the power for our homes. I see this as a good thing-though I won't sell my energy stocks for a bit.
What if it is not just oil? What if it turns into deflation in all segments of the economy? I don't exactly see many economies, anywhere in the world, "firing on all cylinders" here...
In the absence of economic growth, what are you left with? Maybe a vacuum? That would explain the great sucking of wealth out of the market that is occurring.
Progressives probably should have factored in the potential for situations like this before they went all outsource and globalization.

How about you point to some of the seminal pieces of outsourcing legislation like NAFTA and tell us how all those voters with (R) on their names are "lefties". LMAO.
But why did Trump supporters vote for Romney, McCain, Bush and Reagan if they really were so concerned about outsourcing and globalization? As long as people vote for corporate tools, you get exactly that.
The penalty for supporting the Perot Reform Party in 1992 was election of Bill Clinton to the presidency with just 43% of the popular vote.
Bill Clinton, perhaps the most enthusiastic globalist of them all, gave us NAFTA and the 2000 China Trade Act.
Finally getting a non-globalist (relatively speaking) into office required that the Republican Party first face a hostile takeover from the latter incarnation of the Reform Party, the Tea Party movement.
Only when that had been accomplished would we able to control primary contests that had previously been nothing more than a pre-arranged contest between one party-approved corporate ***** and a second party-approved corporate *****.
Their policy positions were always indistinguishable: free trade, open borders/amnesty and low taxes/sweetheart contracts for the donor class.
Moreover, it's the same donor class doing business with both parties.
For someone to come on here to try to rub Republican voter's nose in **** because they were once forced to pick between Bush and McCain while the Democrat establishment is fixing the primary for Biden reeks of insincerity.
Maybe this will be the year that Democrat voters do what Republican voters have already done and take their party back from the donor class.
The price of oil dropped 20-30% over the weekend. This is due to Russia refusing to cut production in the face of suppressed demand, thanks to the shut downs in China caused by coronavirus. Since OPEC can't reach a deal, they are going to race to the bottom by creating a massive oversupply. The shocks have already caused world markets to plummet into what looks like deflationary hell. Oil is hitting unthinkable lows. It looks as if our global economy has hit an iceberg, and is taking on water. Are lefties going to get their precious market crash before the election?

But why was anyone forced to vote Republican? Why not simply vote for FDR democrats who refuses bribe money from corporations if people were really that concerned about globalization and outsourcing?
US producers require around $40 on average to break even I am told. At the current prices, many won't be able to pay off their debt. You know what happens after that... Oil actually dropped well below $30 a barrel over night.

I completely agree Eastriver. Although, both of you, offshoring/globalization was a bipartisan venture.
