I think the question now is "What else are we neglecting?" People don't really understand the importance of certain government agencies until something goes wrong (i.e., not having a pandemic response team and inadequate CDC funding). What other areas of the government are we neglecting that will come back to bite us in the behind?
Many people do not understand the importance of anything until they need it. Even a simple fire extinguisher people are baffled as to why someone would have one at home "hey, you have never used it!", well hell, I hope to never have to use it.
