I agree with you here. Action needs to be decisive and enforced. Otherwise, we will be worse off than Italy. Italy locked down when they got to our numbers.

Yea.. the larger the population the longer the exponential growth curve can propagate before people start running into others with immunites to transmission from getting over it/already having it. Which is what will slow it down naturally with no intervention... basically population level saturation.

Basically a larger space to propagate into means the exponential growth continues for longer unchecked, and the longer the curve can continue unchecked the faster it grows.

A lot of people think we have more than 4314 cases (as of me typing this) so when we get a bigger sample size, the numbers may go in one direction or the other. For example, Italy's mortality rate is somewhere close to 9%

When the American citizens come back, our number will be doubling every day too.

I wish Italia would set up an IBAN for donations.

Offit is getting a lot of blowback on "Refutations to Anti-vaccine Memes". And even so, he's not saying "Ignore it". Here's a snippet: "Wouldn’t it make more sense, then, to ask people who are elderly and infirm to stay away from crowds, thus lessening their chances of contracting the disease. Also, to ask people who are sick with respiratory symptoms to stay home. Focus on common sense things like washing hands several times a day and standing clear of people who are coughing or sneezing. The federal government can also help by making it easier for businesses to allow people who are ill to stay home."

FWIW, I do not agree with Dr. Offit.

My allowable three:
"About four in ten adults (41%) ages 18 and older in the U.S. (105.5 million people) have a higher risk of developing serious illness if they are infected with coronavirus, due to their older age (60 and older) or health condition (Figure 1; Table 1).

Most of those at higher risk of developing a serious illness are older (72.4% or 76.3 million adults); however, the remaining 29.2 million adults ages 18-59 are at risk due to an underlying medical condition.

An estimated 5.7 million adults who are at higher risk of getting a serious illness if they become infected with coronavirus are uninsured, including 3.9 million adults under age 60 and 1.8 million who are ages 60-64."

So all you post-Boomers are not "safe".

Good, we get the whole country on board and we might just have a chance at stopping this before our healthcare system gets swamped under.

Here's a good article from WBUR:

"Clues on how to fight the coronavirus lie within history’s past epidemics, including devastating outbreaks of polio."
