yeah I think Italy will recover too, but it is going to be a very long and painful recovery. Totally unnecessary.
Italy chose to drag this thing on and on, China? suck it up and deal with it.
Italy moved pretty quickly to close schools and told people to telework and stay home. Many did not. A minority, mostly young people, went to bars and restaurants and spread the virus all over the north of the country. We had the same thing going on here. Until a couple hours ago we had a president making light of the whole thing. AFAIK we still have a congressman encouraging people to ignore the guidance and go out to restaurants and bars. We hopefully nipped it in the bud in time with these crackdowns, but they are all voluntary so who knows.
This whole crisis is exposing the shortcomings of the US economic structure. The entire restaurant and hospitality industry along with local labor contractors have zero health care coverage, zero work-from-home or unemployment benefits. In addition, local restaurants and bars will lay off staff and not be receiving subsidies or bailouts yet will suffer most of the fallout of any self quarantine.
There are going to be huge numbers of people going broke from this - which in turn will further tank the already plunging economy.
On the other hand, supermarkets and manufacturers (3M, Clorox) are desperate for employees as they move into 3 shifts to provide goods and make sure the stores stay stocked.
If you get laid off go to your local supermarket who will probably hire you on the spot.
I wish that just for once, the President would stop lying, if only for a little while.
It's his job to inform the people, with information passed upward to him from others (which is sketchy at best because of globalization and our resulting lack of test supplies), what is going on and in a matter that DOESN'T EXCITE PANIC yet doesn't make people blow off the virus as a non issue.
It's really a no win situation.
I don't get the "critical" column on World I Meters Yesterday it was 10 for the US. Today it is 12. Yet around 30 people have died in America during that time. Not surprisingly, the numbers increase every day. Well, except for the "critical" cases
Well, Houston just shut down all the bars and clubs and said restaurants are drive thru or delivery only. There's gonna be a LOT of people hurting financially due to this.
I am slightly hopeful about this today. I groaned when Trump came out with the team. But, he actually did a good job today at the presser. For the first time in his presidency Trump rose to his title. Let's see if it lasts.

The one responsible for the delay and expedited spread did what exactly to garner this praise?
