I was in line at an Arizona post office yesterday, behind a bunch of Trump supporters - I know this because they were talking about the primary and ridiculing Ds (the R primary was cancelled). To a person, they believed that the virus itself is a hoax.
Apparently, they didn't catch the nuance that Trump never called the virus a hoax.
Lots of people believe it is overblown. But people are learning daily. The beaches in Florida were full of college kids who believed that. A few will die.
My proclivity for crunching numbers led me to short the stock market on Mar 6.
At the current rate of 31% daily growth (last 10 day average) our 6,000 cases today will be 234,000 by Mar 31.
Kinda sobering, isn't it?
I just don’t understand why the administration won’t shut everything down for three weeks, have everybody self isolate, and get this done and over with. Without any leadership and so much uncertainty I think it’s going to drag out longer than it would have if we just let it collapse. There doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
First off, the three weeks will not do much. We will all need to go to the store at some point. Also it isn't a magical cure. Also look at how many still don't follow it. I don't but I get stir crazy couped up. That is just my nature.

Sadly there are many that think it is. That said I'm sure democrats might agree to it too though they don't say it is a hoax to get Trump out. That said Trump besides trying to buy votes, is doing not a totally great job at crisis management. He did better today but there were still him pulling boners during the press briefing.

I saw one today in Wal-Mart. A clerk thought it was overblown. I kind of did but I understand because I am fairly walk a mile in their shoes but I know two others who have changed their tune on the handling of the virus. The problem is there are still spring breakers and St. Patrick's day idiots out there. I say this as someone who saw a movie yesterday.
Maybe. Or more likely, there are far more people running around with only minor symptoms who will never be tested and counted, which makes the virus look worse than it is. People don't go running to the hospital every time they have a sniffle. Some people develop no symptoms at all. There's no way to know how many cases are out there unless we test everyone. But the reality is, we are only testing people with significant symptoms for the most part, because there are only so many test kits to go around.
That's why I said "reported cases". We don't know for sure how prevalent the virus is, since testing is so limited.
Nevertheless, COVID-19 does seem to be more virulent than the common cold or flu. In Washington state, deaths from COVID-19 have already overtaken the flu.
Interesting study out of Italy, so they basically wanted to know how many people in this one town in Italy were positive, so they decided to test all 3000 inhabitants regardless if they showed any symptoms or not. Well it looks like between 50 and 75% that tested positive, were completely asymptomatic!
