Once the fear mongering is shown to be just that, expect some real mass anger to develop as the unemployed begin to recognize they were put out of work over a govt overreaction/lies.
No amount $1000 checks is gonna stop the blowback.
I agree 100%.

Even if the death toll is 50k, that is far lower than the economic toll of a severe depression. I heard something a while back that each percentage increase in the unemployment rate equates to 14,000 deaths.

Imagine if we go from 3.5% to 20% unemployment due to this shutdown. Let's do the math: 16.5% increase X 14,000 = 231,000 deaths.

So, shouldn't we be taking the less bad option here?

Wrong, wrong, wrong. We need to accelerate the peak of this epidemic and get it to end ASAP. Economic depression is NOT what we want.

That would overload the hospital system and cause far more deaths. Also if we had reacted to this earlier we could have mitigated the economic effects.

If we follow this logic, how many bankers caused the deaths of many people from the global crash in 2008?

It was going to overload regardless. Look at Italy, which is under a brutal, sole-crushing lockdown (can't even walk in the park!) and they're still getting slammed in the hospitals.

We need to take the hit, as tough as it is, and get this thing over with ASAP. If this shutdown goes to June like they're saying, we are DONE as a country. No stimulus program would work - especially without taxes coming in. This goes for every single country in the world that's under lockdown. Sure hope someone wakes up and sees the folly of all of this.

Another thing about the checks - if everyone gets them in mid-April and is told to spend them to get the economy moving again, I sure hope everything's open by then. Otherwise, it's mattress stuffing.

How is that possible? its 2 weeks before anyone shows symptoms, NO ONE has any idea what it will look like, so there can be no timeline yet.

Once the first or second week in April rolls around, we will know more, I think they will get tougher once more people start showing symptoms and really they will be forced to, if they keep it like it is now, more and more people will will spread it around, people are NOT following the rules on social distancing at all.

Realistically, I think businesses should expect to be closed for around 4-6 months.

Well the only hope we have now is that a vaccine is rushed. I think we are probably going to see a global depression from this.

That money is for people to spend on bills, because they are out of work, not to get the economy going! Do we really want people out shopping during this? LOL
