Sorry for my ignorance, but I genuinely don't know the correct answer. The idea behind social distancing is so that we don't get breath droplets on other people, right? But if you're hugging someone, your breath is being exhaled behind the person you're hugging, and the other person's breath is being exhaled behind you. So wouldn't it be safe to hug people? Sure, you first have to approach the person in order to hug them, so there's a risk there. But other than that, wouldn't two people hugging each other be safe from spreading their germs?

I definitely understand where this guy is coming from. Imagine how it must feel for other people to look at you and automatically think that you are a carrier of coronavirus. I can imagine that Asians might think they're being treated as the "unclean" lepers of the olden days. So, good for him for taking the initiative to break down those barriers. And good for the people whose humanity compelled them to hug the man.

Cool idea.

Poor( and arguably borderline dangerous) execution.

No it's not.

It was a stupid idea and now Italy is ravaged.

I get two lessons from this stupid sh*t:

1. Touchy feely feel-good crap doesn't work when the planet is infected with a new and unknown virus, that originated in a violent and secretive communist country

2. The United States must NEVER be shamed into compromising our safety by knee jerk, agenda driven, untrue accusations of racism

Again - again - again - it's not freakin' rocket science.
