They never guaranteed that every single person will be saved by the drug. That is also true for all other drugs to.
But if they can reduce the predicted 100k death toll to 2k, that would be worth it.
The bulk of that predicted death toll would die the next 60 days, coincidentally the clinical trials and publications and paperwork also take the same amount of time. That is why the concept of randomized blah blah trials as a concept have to be scrapped.
Doctors are treating themselves, for prevention. In fact, they are getting flack for buying the drugs for themselves and their families and reducing availability for those taking it already for non-COVID-19 indications.

Yes, 5 days from start they must have the data. Normally they take months to analyze that data out of convenience, red tape and self-importance, but now they should be forced to do that overnight.
Any doctor who refuses to prescribe it to hospitalized patients at this point...is a mass murderer.
