Wait - so it is "credit" and only $600 or $1200 (single or joint)?

I thought it was $1200 or $2400 and for most all....who file a return (and maybe others)???

Maybe I didn't find the clear answer to my query?

Married - joint filer and make 130K in tax free income...file a tax return so owe almost nothing.

Do we get the $2400? No earned income.

If we paid in $1K in estimated does this mean the Government mails us a "refund" i.e. "free money or check" when we file for $2400?

Seems a simple question. I would hope some know better than I because I can't read that small print.

Why should ANYONE get a check?? It sounds like everyone who has been laid off is going to get paid full salary via unemployment compensation. Why should people end up with MORE money than they would have earned otherwise as a result of this?

Sure-the $2400 we get will hopefully pay our income tax balance. And with "tax day" delayed until July I hope to have that check before taxes need to be paid.

Now, I'd rather just have a tax cut, but that's another story.

I guess I won't even get one. I'm an " essential" worker. Still have to work and put up with being overworked, if not underpaid, and run the risk of getting the damn virus from the public or coworkers. I'd gladly take a few weeks off and use accrued time off and not worry. A check from the government would be the icing on the cake.
I'll just have to settle being the ****** that keeps my company afloat and gets nothing in return for it gratitude wise. Same as with the government. I'm a load bearing worker and a load bearing citizen.

Someone in a place that's hit hard can make over $99,000 but should still get funds because they might have been negatively affected by the government's decision for shutdowns. By restricting who gets it its all about class warfare and redistribution, like some people just need to bear the brunt of the government's decision even though they did lose money over it.

There are still many parts of the country, especially rural areas that have not seen any restrictions at all and life is still normal. Should they still get money? So a business owner in Louisiana who might have in income of over $99,000 should get nothing extra though his business was closed for 4 weeks, but a barber in rural Montana whose income never changed should just get $1200?

So in essense my son with a part time job with no responsible bills will receive $1,200, and myself with a Mortgage, a dozen other bills and mouths to feed will receive $0. Makes no sense for everyone who supports a family and is head of household. However those of us who just were screwed with nothing will be tax base repaying all those $1,200 checks.

Just another brainless welfare program. As many have pointed out, it’s not tied to virus impact. It also has income limits that exclude a huge number of people. Many in nyc earn high income but have a high cost of living AND are hit hard by the virus.

I'm too young to know, but that could be a possible scenario I'm guessing. Does anyone know?
I think he meant just worthless takers who never contributed anything. Obviously seniors on SS would not be in this group as they contributed their whole lives.
