My idea regarding that is to reserve 5% of test kits for testing randomly selected citizens on a weekly basis.
No, that tests people who are shedding virus. What we need to know is how many got the virus and got over it. That is determined by antibody testing. There is a test for that, we are not doing it either. The US is just flying in the dark, in the fog on this virus. It's inexcusable.

But to do that you would first have to find the people who actually had the virus in the first place. Once you find people with antibodies in their blood via random testing, you know they have obviously survived it. Then you can extrapolate the numbers.

Has that test been created yet? I hadn't heard anything about that. It should just be a blood test, similar to a diabetic checking their blood sugar
Too true we need it. If you think you might have had it and could pop by your local WalGreens drive-through and get a test for Covid-19 antibodies, wouldn't you? If you've already had it, then you don't have to worry about getting it in the future. You should be completely immune. Who doesn't want to know that?

As I predicted, China announced that it would suspend the entry of almost all foreign nationals holding valid visas including residence permits starting Saturday at midnight.
China is being inundated with tourists and workers from other countries that have the virus. Countries that have either no desire, or no capacity to contain the virus.
The world will soon be divided into two groups:
Countries with active virus spreading unstopped
Countries with no active virus
People will soon be able to travel between countries within the same group. If they want to travel to countries where the virus is contained, they will have to undergo testing and or quarantine.

In the news yesterday an entire county in Colorado was being anti-body tested for free. So the test is already in the US and being used but obviously not everywhere.
Another post from far right "news" sources.......which attempts to give excuses for this admin.
Actually Dr Birx was saying the same sort of thing today at the news conference. Computer models saying 60-80% infection rate in a few months. But there is not a country yet that has more than 1 in 1000 infection rate. Except for a couple of small countries. Monaco being one I believe. So there is a big disconnect between the computer models and reality.
So she said we need to be able to test the masses and see who has had the virus because its possible that much fewer get ill from it than we thought.
Its hopeful news. Could be why it burned out in China. It might have spread widely and then slowed down.

That has to be at the top of the list of priorities.

Did you own stock in Theranos? The UK test is a prototype — something not approved yet for anything. Star Trek was a great show, but 110% fiction. CSI is another TV drama with fantastic science-y gadgets and medical marvels — all mostly fiction.
Here in the real world, blood tests have to be approved by the FDA and vetted in studies that take months to years. Bleating about not having a medical test that never exited before is beyond silly. Grow up.
