Dont you just love how liberals are so generous and caring toward their fellow citizens. I must admit They re better people than us conservatives...

Harvard University, which has the largest endowment of any school in the country, is cutting its subcontracted dining hall workers without pay as it shuts down in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Smart move. No one is gathering in cafeterias or buffet lines now. Laying off the employees gives the employees a right to file for unemployment which has some very attractive financial additions added by the Senate to keep those employees and their families afloat until this crisis passes.

Wouldn't you agree?

He would if a conservative did it, but not if "Liberal Harvard" does.

You really seem to underestimate the power of being flexible with your values. OP may be onto something while the rest of us are bound by having a consistent moral code, he can flip on a dime if it's convenient...

I'm almost jealous...

Harvard has a MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR endowment. They could afford to provide FREE TUITION to every student and pay the salaries for all its employees. Why are they hoarding this much money????

I do. Going back to graduate school, I was able to interact with the hourly staff in various places on campus. I usually gravitate to those folks, regardless.

I was struck by the blatant hypocrisies of the professorial class. These were almost universally people who decry "income inequality," yet they couldn't be moved to utter a word about the adjunct down the hall making a pittance, though she had no fewer credentials than some tenure-track profs. Nor could they be moved to utter a word for the grad assistants and their low pay, even when some of those grad assistants quite literally did all the work for various profs. And then there are profs who speak of the systemic discrimination in the university system that prevents "people of color" being hired, yet these profs could easily rectify that by giving up their own jobs for "people of color." Of course, they will not do that. Such sacrifices are to be made by others, like Asian students, or, more likely, the unwashed proles, who toil outside the gates of our ivory towers.

Liberal colleges much like all liberals operate the same, "other peoples money" is the only money there always willing to spend.

yes. yes we do care about the little guy. Yes we do think it is shameful for one of the richest institutions in this country to lay off their poorest most vulnerable workers when they continue to pay their rich elitist utterly entitled faculty millions.

we think it is disgusting and we know it is proof that the left holds the middle class and the poor in complete contempt.

you use us for your power. you don't care at all about those you purport to champion.
Clearly Harvard doesn't care

Who is "we"? and who is daring to suggest they should have a say in what Harvard Alumni have freely given for continuation of the institution? Should we "socialize" their investments and force the Alumni to do what you want?

"The Cheesecake Factory, one of the most popular sit-down restaurant chains in the country, says it will not be able to make upcoming rent payments for any of its storefronts on April 1 because of significant loss of income due to the coronavirus crisis."

Should we socialize the Cheesecake Factory? The Malls?

The Cheesecake Factory is a terrible business....to not have a few months of operating expenses in reserve? One month and DONE???

Take this times 10's of thousands. The weak shall sink. Hopefully the low-wage workers have unemployment benefits and will have a job soon when things pass over.

This, in effect, is like you telling us a crashing plane should throw a couple people out the window on the way down to save them! We are ALL going down......looking at the individual situations is going to drive you nuts.

Didn't Ted Cruz graduate Harvard? Well, yes....so did GWB and MANY Right Wing pols. Lobby them......to fork over their Billions.
