That specifically includes $25 billion for passenger air carriers, $4 billion for cargo air carriers and $17 billion for businesses that work in national security. The rest of the funds, $454 billion, are given wide latitude to provide loans to businesses, states and municipalities.
The CNN article is misleading. They set aside 454 billion dollars to backstop a new investment program run by the Fed to buy up troubled assets. The size of the fund approaches 5 trillion dollars. The debt-related securities are marked up by the Fed, leaving banks and hedge funds with big profits.
If they had not, actual pension holders would have gotten a larger share of the pie, but this is something liberals and conservatives can never accept.
