Why are pot stores considered "essential"....

I get why schools and restaurants are closed (to keep with isolation) but why are weed stores allowed to stay open?.....

I don't smoke it, if that matters.

Because some people use it for pain suppression, anxiety, and other conditions. Not the end of the world to have them open as long as they follow good social distancing and hygienic practices.

It's a state-by-state decision, not across the board. Here in Massachusetts, which has adopted legal recreational use, only medical marijuama dispensaries are considered essential. Recreational shops are not.

It's medicine for many, many people. More effective than pharmaceuticals and much safer.

Why would people want something that calms anxiety during a pandemic?

Because there are actually some folks for whom cannabis is essential medicine. My husband who has Parkinson's struggled mightily with Restless Leg Syndrome and cannabis is the only thing that ever gave him relief.

I personally can't stand using it and only ever did when I had RLS several years ago. It's medicine that works.

Plenty of recreational weed shops are closed. Google is your buddy.

Not only is the medicinal use essential but also a good way for people to just cope during a quarantine.

Same with liquor stores.

Also someone brought a good point that liquor stores can keep someone from having to be hospitalized due to withdrawal since hospitals are gonna be slammed.
