I'm not a fan of George Bush but I do believe that faced with this pandemic he would have done a far better job than Trump is. I don't think Bush would have dismissed the threat for six weeks after getting an intelligence briefing that the coming pandemic is a major threat. And I know Bush would not say to New York, "you don't need 30,000 ventilators." Bush has a down home compassionate side to him that would have resonated well with many. Trump is toxic, he leads by insults and fear.
So Bush is smarter than all current world leaders? Since every country has been affected by the virus. Many might be wiped out by it like Italy
When Americans are faced with a national crisis, they normally rally around the President. The last major national crisis was 9/11. Let's compare the "rally effect" for Bush vs Trump:
Change in approval ratings
GW Bush: Sept 10, 52%. Oct 10, 88%. +36%
Trump: Jan 21, 42%. Today, 46%. +4%
Conclusion: George Bush was far, far more effective at providing leadership that rallied Americans to his side. Trump's leadership has been sorely lacking by comparison. Bush was able to bring nearly all Democrats and Independents over to his side, united in one cause. Trump has not.
