These sorts of predictions are typically not correct, except when the results are imminent, like a weather system that is 24 hours from moving into your area. Do not be surprised if this prediction is WAY wrong. And there is nothing imminent about this particular prediction.
When it's wrong, they'll claim their dire predictions were responsible for the response that made their predictions wring.
They are in a no lose position by throwing out crazy numbers.
This is not what you want to hear. Dr Fauci has been pressed many times for predictions, but has been cautious, and has stressed that the case count and the casualty count both are dependent on what we do, and that that story is still being written.
My read on this is that while this remains true, enough has already occurred, that some of the best-case scenarios that may have initially been within the scope of reasonable possibilities, can now be ruled out.
"Millions of Americans will be infected by the coronavirus and 100,000 to 200,000 will die, the U.S. government’s top infectious-disease expert warned Sunday".
Well, we all gotta go sometime. Beachgoers and New Jersey Coronavirus party goers aren't helping matters. And here I thought only dumb Southern, I can smell 'em at Walmart rednecks were STUPID!! (Kinda like ONLY white people are racist!)
I just came here to say the same thing. Fauci said he didn't want to be held to that, and "I just don’t think that we really need to make a projection when it’s such a moving target, that you could so easily be wrong."
Why the hell did he say it then?
He did say it and he certainly will be held to that. And as well he should be.
Yes, Fauci is a Democrat and was a Hillary supporter. No, I am not saying he is "making stuff up", but the medical folks are always going to talk worst case, and err on the side of extreme caution as there is NO downside for them to do it. It is up to our leaders to balance their advice with the other priorities in life and society.
Find some material, will you? This response is really getting old.
I think this bizarre disconnect from the reality of what's happening and "how many die from seasonal flu" will melt away soon. Just look at what's happening in New York, Washington State, and what's about to happen here in Chicago. It's in our town now. This will happen in waves in hot spots all around the states at different times. The trolls will still post this nonsense because it's all they have. No one believes it at this point. It's just a a manufactured response to sew more discourse.
It's horrifying to think that this will kill that many people. I'm deeply disturbed because I have so many friends on the front lines in the hospitals and I fully expect to lose one if not more to this. This is the sober reality of what we are dealing with here. I just wish the trolls would crawl back under their rock and stop this disinformation. The idiot factor is alive and well in America. Our neighbor was on the bike trail which was packed last week. Stay home people. Stay home!
So every year, the deaths from the flu exceed 10,000, usually by a factor of nearly 4 times that amount and frequently quite a bit more than that.
That’s over the course of a year, sometimes hospitals were overwhelmed by the flu but I don’t recall anything as rapid as the last month. Our health care workers were vaccinated against the flu, I don’t recall them ending up in hospitals and ventilators or having tents outside hospitals. There is really nothing to compare to this new virus.
Even at the low end of Dr Fauci’s prediction this will be disastrous.
