Not to diminish the very serious COVID-19 with a estimated 1% mortality which is likely many times deadlier per capita than influenza, but COVID-19 has about a third of the mortality rate of Hepatitis A and is not that much higher than Salmonella and E-Coli.

Hepatitis A outbreak in San Diego in 2017 which is very contagious and spread oral-fecal route had a mortality rate of 3.4%

San Diego just 2 years ago had Heptitis A which is very contagious like the stomach flu and 588 came down with it, 403 were rushed to the hospital and 20 died.

Salmonella has a mortality rate of 0.6%

E-Coli has a mortality rate of 0.5% among children, the rate is likely higher for seniors who come down with it.

Norovirus or "stomach flu" effects among senior citizens with a mean age of 77 years old in the study and One of every 14 seniors who comes down with a stomach flu will pass away from it.

sigh. And its FAR more infectious. This sort of nonsense just boggles my mind. COVID-19 is going to kill a ton more people then either of those. Get out of here with your nonsense.

Yeah. You're trying to diminish COVID 19.

Doesn't it frustrate you when folks post decades past historical stats, that indicate high fatalities, by past unknown pathogens!! Hep A is something very closet my heart.. as we lost a lot of HC workers/Physicians and Nurses if got stick by a scale or needle of someone that carried it!!

This is trying to compare various decade old pathogens and their eventual stats to a virulent pathogen (novel) that's in it's infancy of data! It boggles my mind, how many try to compare it! There's a reason they want testing, and are collecting DATA.. After 2-3 months.. GIVE me a Break is touting such comparisons!!

DJT, even now along with his sycophants are trying daily to revise history of facts in the timeline of knowledge of it, when known and how portrayed by Administration for MONTHS prior to succumbing to what the world already knew ( Congress/WH had been advised in late and early Jan 2020)... Delay in response by over a month, augmented by defanging Pandemic Team/defunding CDC should forever be "Blood" on their hands! Revisionist History peddling will not work with anyone educated and knowledge of it all!!

Peddling decades past percentages only points out how desperate these Cult type posters are trying to spin DJT's actions~~ as positive or defending his actions that has cause more deaths than necessary~~ Many of them could have been prevented if defunding/disbanding those (Apr, 2018) who were in place to deal with this, then deflected it's urgency yet another few months once briefed on it !!

Course many took advantage and cashed in their stocks/Investment to avoid the obvious crash in the market! Only those in the KNOW could have gamed the system (Insider Trading).

This whole game of deflection and rewriting history is the pattern of GOP in general, but has fuelled it to the point of ridiculousness . It's not a wonder, Allies+ multitude high stake type don't believe nor trust anything this "Incompetent POTUS" says.. Promote this wild BS propaganda for, until DJT doesn't like them anymore!

DJT~~ will forever more be known as a total failure/Childish/Narcissistic/Self Centred/Ignorant Leader! Foreign /Domestic/Paid Trolls promote his BS on all platforms ... Putin may well be worried now about his "Stooge" getting re-elected come Nov/2020!!

You would think that people are educated and have common sense, but that's not the case with everyone. Hep A, E-Coli, and Salmonella, while deadly, is easily controlled.

This thread is a reminder.

Hep B or C. Hep A is oral/fecal and not very deadly.

Why is it so hard to understand mortality rate doesn't tell you everything? You also have to consider infectivity rates. Disease X can kill exponentially more people in total even though it might have a lower mortality rate than another disease (call it Y). If X spreads and infects much more rapidly than Y, then X will potentially kill a lot more people than Y even though it may have a lower mortality rate.

Covid-19 already has two strains, the older original less aggresive 'S' Strain and the more aggressive 'L' strain, and such RNA viruses are often subject to numerous genetic mutations and therefore numerous strains.

When Xiaolu Tang at Peking University in Beijing and colleagues studied the viral genome taken from 103 cases, they found common mutations at two locations on the genome. The team identified two types of the virus based on differences in the genome at these two regions: 72 were considered to be the “L-type” and 29 were classed “S-type”.

A separate analysis by the team suggests that the L-type was derived from the older S-type. The first strain is likely to have emerged around the time the virus jumped from animals to humans. The second emerged soon after that, says the team. Both are involved in the current global outbreak. The fact that the L-type is more prevalent suggests that it is “more aggressive” than the S-type, the team say.
