She’s a Trump hater. She’ll do anything in her power to extend this pandemic, extend economic fallout, and prevent people from getting better if it is attributed to a medication touted by Trump. As of today her state has a death rate of almost three percent, that’s 100 percent higher than the US average of 1.5
She would rather thousands of Michigan residents die than admit Trump was right again.
...Prescribing hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine without further proof of efficacy for treating
COVID-19 or with the intent to stockpile the drug may create a shortage for patients with lupus,
rheumatoid arthritis, or other ailments for which chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are proven
treatments. Reports of this conduct will be evaluated and may be further investigated for
administrative action... https://www.michigan.gov/documents/l...0_684869_7.pdf
This was obviously an attempt to try to prevent a shortage of the drug while manufacturers ramp up production, IMO. I've already heard lots of anecdotal stories (here, on other forums and in real life) about docs prescribing it as a prophylactic to friends/colleagues, etc.
why did you not underline this part, which basically means it can't be prescribed, period?

doctors are also urged to squeal on other doctors who prescribe it.

The agency’s March 24 letter warns physicians and pharmacists of professional consequences for the prescribing of hydroxychloroquine (and chloroquine). Beyond the rational recommendation against hoarding as production of this medication needs to be ramped up, the letter deviates into open threats of “administrative action” against the licenses of doctors that prescribe hydroxychloroquine.
The letter also instructs pharmacists to ignore physician orders for this medication. Due to the debate over a pharmacist’s right to refuse to fill medications that go against their religious beliefs, this could place pharmacists in the unprecedented position of being told that they must fill prescriptions that violate their “conscience (religious belief)” but must not fill prescriptions to treat COVID-19.

So, we shouldn’t prescribe it for people dying of COVID19 because it could cause a few week shortage for people who want it for arthritis?
First of all....Trump's name should be eliminated from mention of the drug. Trump has ZERO involvement with the discovery. I had read, from other media sources, how the drug showed promise, before Trump mentioned it. I first heard it from Australia research about two weeks before Trump mentioned anything about it. The drug was already gaining traction as the best therapy for Covid-19. I had also read that HIV drugs showed promise as well.
The problem often in the US is the belief of exceptionalism or that we are superior to other nations and hence....we like to spend a lot of time trying to create a better wheel. There was an approved test, by the WHO, that most of the world was using to detect conronavirus, but the US delayed Americans being tested until it creates its own "superior test". This is why there was a big bottleneck in testing in the US...wasting time and costing lives.
I don't know of what the Governor of Michigan stated....but she was probably trying to not build up false hope or deplete the availability of the drug for those who need it. Keep in mind that tens of thousands of Africans die from malaria each year. They need the drug and do not need a run on the drug by rich nations...leaving poor nations with a shortage of supply. There was also no definitive proof, yet, of the treatment.
