Well, at least they are giving those people some shelter. Where I live now, they just closed all of the shelters and kicked the homeless out into the streets - they have nowhere to go.

Welp, it's one way to get rid of the homeless.

I'd hate to be the Medical staff that has to take care of them.

Fire up the crematoriums.

If one person came down with Coronavirus spaced out far apart from others the risk of transmission would extremely low. If one person comes down with it in a packed room in a recreation centers much of the dorm might come down with it and many have severe respiratory issues already.

Rather than giving nice tents and air mattresses with good pillows away during a time of 80 degree high temperture and 60 degree lows and having the homeless sleep comfortably and safely in a park during this outbreak, he wants to cram 6,000 people into 42 recreation centers.

Driving around cramming people on tiny buses and warehousing them like animals in tiny recreational centers is about the worst thing they can do.

It seems like Bill DeBlasio and Eric Garcetti, the people running LA and NYC have less congnitive abilities than the average grade school student.

The craziness of many cities during this entire public health crisis is making the situation much, much worse.
Not too different than what is happening in many evangelical churches all over the US. The churches are packing their flocks into buses to bring them to services.

No city, county, state or country is prepared for a once in a 100 year global pandemic.

Under the same circumstances what would YOU do?

How many of these people will die once they get their Trump $ check and blow it on drugs?

All shelters, everywhere, are by their very nature, high risk for guests and volunteers.

As usual, OP prefers to view life through a political lens.

I have slept in parks in my life before. It is certainly not ideal, but to cram 6,000 people in 42 tiny buildings during a pandemic of a severe respiratory illness is crazy that the LA city officials would even suggest it.

Better to give them a nice high-quality tent, nice air mattress, nice pillows and hand out healthy meals and have them space apart and patrol it to make sure they are spaced.

It is much safer to have homeless sleeping in 60 degree fresh air at night in a tent distanced from others in a patrolled park with an air mattress, pillows provided by the city then to have homeless warehoused in recreation centers when there is a severe respiratory pandemic.

Preferable to have people sleeping in parks outside no, but what they are doing having 6,000 people in very dense quarters in 42 buildings when they haven't been screened is cruel and the politicians who think it is appropriate have issuing with logic.

LA has raised taxes but they misallocate the funds and don't spend them efficiently and they have a massive unsheltered population that with all the taxes should have been sheltered appropriately in a safe, spacious environment.

They could have built things like sheds, single-story SRO's where people enter from the outside and other decent housing with the fortune that floods into the city from their sales taxes earmarked for the homeless.
Sounds like there is an opportunity for YOU to get out there, on the front lines, and make a difference.

Please keep us posted.
