That's if we keep shelter in place operating. The only way to avoid this catastrophe is to end it and let people get back to work in safe working conditions--safe as best as we can make them for workers. Short of that we are finished as a nation. The economy cannot handle 47 million Americans out of work. It'll be the Great Depression on steroids.
Yeah, I totally agree. This is getting ridiculous. The media is overblowing this and everyone is scared. This virus kills maybe 1% percent of people, yet we're willing to shut down the economy and bankrupt everyone. Most people who catch this virus will not die... but media doesn't want to tell anyone that. I've been so angry about this the last few days that I just want to scream. Americans are such sheep these days... SMDH.
Uh, if everyone is dead, there will be no one to enjoy the good economy !
How does a virus with perhaps a 1% mortality rate = everyone dead? The more deadly a virus is, the more self limiting they tend to be, because dead people aren't walking around spreading the virus.
The other side of the argument is not fake or made up. Starvation kills 100%. People with no jobs are not producing anything, yet still consume. Causing our system to collapse would not benefit anyone, and would likely kill millions around the globe.
A lot of elderly people are not capable of working. If our system is pushed to the brink, those vulnerable populations would be the first to be wiped out. It's not like many of them can go out into the woods and hunt or forge for food. These people would also become easy targets of theft or worse. If SHTF, it would not be pretty for anyone. But the same people who would be hit hard by the virus would be devastated in a SHTF scenario, perhaps wiped out en masse. History provides plenty of examples of what happens to the masses in desperate times.

Most Americans are either physically or mentally weak these days and that’s very unfortunate.
In the presser today though they said after 4 weeks of social distancing in Italy the rate of case increase started to drop. So we may only need about 2 more weeks to turn the corner.
The models say that hospital usage will peak mid April.

Uh, if everyone is sitting at home endlessly everyone will be dead too. Health care requires an economy with people that pay taxes, show up at work, and make sure a supply chain gets the health care providers needed supplies.
If you want to see real death and destruction, keep the economy shut down for more than a month. Of course, I'm pretty much convinced that elected Democrats want exactly that and nobody in the media will challenge them. So we will see if the Republicans are dumb enough to go along with it.
The economy will start over again...from scratch if necessary.
Yes, burn it all down so we can all be pot farmers, prostitutes and pimps
Previous generations took care of what their forefathers handed down to them. That all changed with the boomer generation. Slash and burn, it'll grow back Do you have any idea how many would be starving to death and dying of other diseases in such an event??? Go read a history book, then you would understand the death toll would be well in the millions in a worst case scenario.
