Good. Trump wants to help them because he’s a great humanitarian. But if foreign ships avoiding US taxes knowingly take people out in the middle of a pandemic then that’s on them. Don’t bring your floating petri dish here.
Even last Saturday there were four cruise ships anchored off the Ft Lauderdale beach.
The mayor of Ft Lauderdale set up a call bridge where citizens could listen and call to ask the mayor and reps from local hospitals questions about the virus, and what the local rules are. For example, mosquitoes cannot spread the virus and police can arrest people who do not obey stay-at-home orders.
Let them stay there. They willfully went in their cruises during this crisis.
I agree. Bringing them into South Florida makes zero sense.
I have a limited amount of empathy for people who stupidly put themselves in this position.
Dealing with the original cruise ships was a logistical nightmare that imo diverted way too much govt and military attention from other critical issues.
Let them wait until a port somewhere without a lot of cases has enough hospital capacity to deal with them.
I live in Fort Lauderdale and most of the cases we already have came from the cruise ships in Port Everglades.
I say - don't let them disemabrk in my backyard. Let them quarantine offshore on the ship they made the choice to go on instead of taking other precautions. They can have any medications airlifted to them offshore.
I'm one of the bleeding heart liberals but for eff's sake- are people incapable or realizing their actions have consequences. These folks are not grocery store workers or sanitation workers who need to put food on the table an pay rent- or hold their job so someone else does not take it. or someone heading to the store visiting a sick relative. They chose to go on vacation in the most non-socially isolated manner possible. This was an entirely voluntary/recreational endeavor.
To be honest I would love to know what the folks in legal told the cruise lines about continuing to operate. My town has a Carnival ship that basically let out its last group two weeks ago and went on a two week voluntary self-quarantine. And they're supposedly the cheaper of the main lines. Who the heck decided it was business as usual?
This must be done. Undoubtedly the ship passengers and crew’s feelings will be hurt by this but so what? There is no reason whatsoever that the general population risk exposure to this pandemic.
I feel bad for the passengers, less bad for the companies that sent passengers out in the middle of a pandemic. Since their company is based in the Bahamas, they should disembark there where they pay taxes to the government who's going to have to deal with this mess. They've already gone port to port and been denied entry by every government along the way; why is it now up the USA to save the day?
What ever country those ships belong to, that is where they need to go.
