I didn’t vote for Trump, but given the circumstances, he has done a good job.
There are 2 million Federal employees, most of whom remain in place through transitions.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

We live in a confederation of fifty separate states. We've kind of forgotten what the word "state" means. It means "country," in most contexts. It's no different here. The federal government is explicitly prohibited by the Constitution from exercising the kind of control everyone seems to expect from them (10th Amendment).

People SHOULD be looking to their state government, first, for the kind of things they're currently demanding from the federal government. Blame for everything bad is going to the feds, while praise for everything good is going to the governors.

It'd be nice if people would take government seriously. Plenty of people are serious about politics, but they don't know the first thing about government. People don't understand how their governments are structured, and for most, the entire thing is about "winning." Left or right; doesn't matter. It's a f'ing joke.

So I ask, why did you say what you did above as though the federal government should be managing the entire nation's response from the top down? Do you honestly think that makes sense? Should someone sitting in an office in DC really be deciding whether I should be leaving my house in east Texas? Shouldn't that decision be left up to people who actually know and understand the local population, resources, etc?

Just as, with hindsight, we are able to assess that Trump's handling of the crisis early on was just as poor.
Not to mention Trump has been President for 3 years and one of his promises was getting jobs back to the USA and he could have started the stock piling the second he got in office. So agreed, we are being failed by president after president after president. And note, I would say the world is being failed by inept leaders who care more about corporate money than they do the peasants lives.

It is easy to observe how conflicted Trump has been, all along.

In a single press conference we hear how there are going to be a lot of deaths over the next few weeks and we have to get back to work.

At the urging of CDC Trump restricted tourism from China. This was somehow supposed to prevent the spread in the US. A few weeks later, the Federal Government issued a 15 day Social Distancing and Gathering “Guidelines”. States and sometimes counties within states reacted or not.

Trump waxed poetic about reopening the US for business on Easter Sunday. It was going to be beautiful.

And then....the dilemma, let it rip and blow up the entire healthcare system and risks millions of deaths or extend the guidelines for another 15 days and address the need for make shift hospitals/ ICUs in emerging hot zones in a way that only the Federal Government can do and inject $6 + Trillion into the economy to attempt to hold it all together.

Those dying right now were infected many weeks ago and deteriorated.

And NYC tri-state may be the canary in the coal mine.

Trump’s temperament is not well suited for a once in a hundred year global pandemic. His messaging was and remains inconsistent and he has taken us along on his emotional roller coaster.

Do you think that Trump should have announced in January that the virus was going to spread through the U.S., there would be a lot of death, and the way to stop it from overwhelming our medical infrastructure would be to impose a nationwide lockdown?

Is that what you're saying? It looks a lot like that's what you're saying.

What do you suppose the reaction from the public, and the Democrats/leftists in particular, would have been?

Would they have said, "You're right, let's shut down the economy, even though we've only seen a single case in this country!"

Tell me, how would you have been handling this, if you were the president? What would you have done differently, and when?

I'm not defending or excusing anything. Honestly, I stopped paying attention months ago, for the most part, to what any politicians are saying about this, because what most say, most of the time, is political in nature. It's disgusting.

So what would you have done differently? Let us know, so we can demand implementation of your wisdom from our elected representatives.

First how long do you think these masks last? They are only goo for 5 years before they have to be replaced because they are no longer effective. Second, we are 4 years into the Trump administration. What did he do about it? Fire the whole pandemic team and not replace them?

Third, he knew from our Intel that this was going to be a dangerous situation back in January. What did he do about it? Lie? Yes Gas light? yes, Have his lap dog lemmings echo chamber do the same? Yes.

Fourth. The time to point a finger is now directly at Trump because but but Obama is only for the trained seals that vomit this nonsense without thought or facts. The buck stops with Trump.

Have people explained why they didn't stock pile a few thousand masks for personal use? As a Libertarian you should be all over that. Why do people need the Fed to do it for them? Why didn't states? Why didn't cities?
