Ain't the Internet cool?? And to answer your question, Michigan is doing terrible at testing.
Thank you. That's all I wanted to know. I'm on news overload and am still working during the day so I don't have time to get details really on any state but my own. It seemed like the question was being bantered around about various states testing levels, so I thought I'd ask. I'm sorry if I irritated you.

Great post, calgirl.

What happened to Detroit is "globalism." Manufacturing was shipped to other countries, which killed the employment prospects for a good many Americans. Instead, China, and other countries, get to force their citizens (read: slaves) into indentured servitude and exploit them for subpar wages.

Americas can make a choice to either continue to buy lots of cheap, foreign-made cr*p or pay more money for products made here in USA that are superior in quality AND employ our fellow Americans. I'm for the later.

Americans' insatiable penchant for material things, lots and often, have not served us well.

Everything you own, owns a part of you.

No bother at all.

The trouble with text is that it completely lacks voice inflection, so we miss a lot of the context to the words we're reading. I was more than happy to look it up for you. I was even happier to give you a link that will allow you to keep track of testing in Michigan in real time. You don't have to wait for somebody to tell you. Two clicks and you'll know.

Just exactly like California.

Why, then, would people bother to self-isolate and not go out for essentials if the government could not care any less than it does about confirmation of Covid? It's a double message.

AIDs patients die of pneumonia. Flu patients die of Covid-19. Thus some numbers are kept down and others are raised, depends what you want to sell.

What has happened to Detroit is a travesty.
I lived it too. 1964-1972...in Dearborn ('burb of Detroit). I lived 1 mile from the glass box (Ford's HQ glass bldg).

I lied about my age, (I was a big kid, so they believed I was 12) & at age 10, began Caddying at Dearborn Country Club for the Ford Execs. I heard them talk amongst themselves about the collapse every Saturday & Sunday at the Golf Club for 8+ hours each day. I'd caddy 36 holes/day...we needed the cash. Ma'd drive me at 7am & pick me up at 7pm, until her car got reposessed, then, I had to use my bike.

I saw all my friends parents (mostly Dads) get laid off, then let go. Spousal & child abuse followed. My Stepdad was laid off from Detroit Diesel-Allison, & the abuse hit home. My Mother stayed & died there in 2018 of COPD, my stepdad became an addict (whereabouts unknown), & my Brother's hospitalized there now (not C19, psych stuff ).

I survived, escaped, and went on to thrive elsewhere. My Brother was so deeply scarred by it all, he fell into depression, and never recovered. He's been on SSD for years, unable to work, all because of what we went through as kids. I pay his bills, so I'm reminded of it often.

For years, I asked myself why it all happened. My best answer is in another thread from this morning titled "American company's in China find out they dont own their plants" post #60. Cliff notes...Gov't caused market distortions.

If you've lived in Detroit, & escaped, as I had, it's easy to see why they are getting decimated by C19. Anyone who was smart & tough enough to get out, got out. Those who weren't, didn't. Now, those poor souls are fighting a new enemy...C19.

If you have any interest in seeing what Detroit was like at its peak, watch the Ford vs. Ferrari movie that came out recently. I through the entire movie remembering what it once was.

Thank you for sharing. Your story is so emotional. I'm sad about your brother. Haven't seen that movie yet but it's on my list.

My dad was with Ford his entire career. He worked his way up; Ford paid for him to get his bachelors and masters, and he was instrumental in getting Ford started with computers. We got out of Dearborn in 1980 when he accepted a transfer to the west coast. In retrospect we got out just in time.

My siblings are a good bit older than I am. They worked summers at Greenfield Village. They're both avid Michigan fans. The main thing I remember about living there is cleaning out the Michigan stadium on Sunday mornings after home football games. Our Catholic school earned money cleaning it up. There I was, 7 years old, collecting all the glass liquor bottles.

I was really much happier when we moved west. I never felt that the Detroit area was a happy place.

Sorry so OT.

The first thing to consider about the demise of Detroit is the absolute junk coming out of Detroit compared to Datsun's, Fiats, Toyotas and Hondas among others from 'over there'..

I remember looking at a Vega at an auto show and walking about four feet to view a Datsun 510 with a fit and finish heads and shoulders above that awful Vega.

Cripes those abominable K.cars that saved Chrysler's butt were gawd awful things by comparison to any foreign built cars, except perhaps the first iteration of Hyundai Pony and that hot mess called a Yugo. I remember rallying a Datsun B210 and putting it though stuff that would have had the wheels falling off a Pinto or Cavalier.

Look at the chrome trim on the side of any of the favoured cars of the 60's and you'll see as much as a 1/2" inch misalignment from door to fender. Shoddy stuff. I bought a new Dodge Charger in 69 and couldn't stand the rattle inside the driver's door so took it back to the dealer with no effort on their part to even investigate so I took the door inner panel off and found four dixie cups with the Chrysler pentastar logo on them stuffed inside - obviously a coffee break car on a Friday afternoon or some such normal thing for them. Too freak'n lazy to walk them to the nearest refuse bin.

People were getting fed up with the crap coming out of Detroit and it had been going on for a long time before factories moved off shore.

Put the blame first on the manufacturing complacency leading to poor quality and THEN on the price of imported stuff and the big bogeyman "globalism".

Why is the press not covering the Michigan lawmaker saved by hydroxychloroquine? Are they rooting against it that badly? I can’t stand our press.

You could thank the UAW and other unions for much of that.

The "laziness" stemmed from the culture of the auto worker that would show up to work drunk, and continue to drink and get high on every break and lunch period without fear of disciplinary action, other than lip service. The all powerful union was there to protect their job.

There were certainly many other issues that led to the downfall of the Detroit auto industry, the greedy (socialistic) unions, and the bully tactics they employed against that industry, to create an adversarial atmosphere, turning many of the employees into a cancer, was a major one.
