A good point -- but it's also attractive to anyone who favors logic over emotion. Scratch deeply enough on the Republican surface and you'll soon encounter an empirical Objectivism that Ayn Rand would admire.

But does this mean that all of us on the right side of the aisle are soulless greed-heads? I think not. We are simply honest enough to understand that the most effective charity begins at home, and operates locally. It is the predominately urbanite-Democrat Party Hacks who see every instance of human suffering as an excuse to build a bigger bureaucracy.

And Richard Daley, possibly the ultimate Demo-Hack, was pretty good at suppressing those who didn't see things the same way as he dud.
