Unions come out of a breakdown in relations between employees & employers. I advocate for those parties to work out their differences directly. If that fails, I'd prefer a 3rd party mediator be called in to navigate a resolution. If the mediator fails, then I might advocate for unions if employees were not forced to join, if union fees were nominal, and voluntary. I would also prohibit union fees & meetings from being used for any political purpose.
I am 100% against unions representation in the public sector. Many public jobs are too critical to society for work stoppages to occur...teachers, police, fire, air traffic control, TSA, & many more.
We have millions of vulnerable public workers who will not receive the full pension payments in the future due to underfunded pensions. In many cases, these pensions were neogiated by unions. These pensions and are unsustainable, and place unfair burdens upon taxpayers resulting in escalating property taxes.
Thanks all! Got my 617 buck stimulus money today!!!! Plus that fat Municipal paycheck Friday!
Its your pension that troubles me most. Your neighbors will be paying you $50,000/yr for 30 yrs to play golf, or go icefishing. That's a $1,500,000 for doing nothing. Great gig if you can get one. Did your neighbors sign up for that? or, did they get hoodwinked?

Nope, they laughed at me for years when I made 8.25 an hour . They said I was a sucker for working at the Utility when I could have been making double elsewhere. That I as a leach for taking WIC for my kids...... Now they are the ones crying...
My daughter works for the state of missouri..... they sent her home and told her she had to use her PTO time...........

Thanks for proving the OP does no know what he/she is talking about. No one should be surprised, it happens LOT on here.

It's funny. Remember 2019 government shut down? I had to work for a month without a paycheck. That crap would NEVER fly in the private sector due to labor law, but it is perfectly OK to do that to federal employees.
Now it is 2020 pandemic and private sector workers turn to suffer. Yet, some people think federal employees should suffer the same fate as the private sector.

uhm….
federal pensions are no where near that amount
for example:
I will retire at the end of the year...with 33 years Federal service
I can not retire until I have at least 30 years..and am 56 yrs old
my retirement is based on the average of my high 3..... so 78k (the average of my high 3)
1% is the number they use...so $780 (1% of 78k)....x the amount of years (33) is $25,740....that will be my annual pension (gross)
which works out to $2145 monthly (gross)….minus continuation of health ins (about 400)...and minus (if requested) survivor benefit (about a 30% reduction of pension, so my wife can continue my pension (reduced) if I die)….. and minus federal income tax (yes pensions are taxed) so my net monthly pension is about $1600 (less than I will receive from SS (if I even make it to 67)
