If that was true, then why WAS Trump trying to prevent them from opening the economy back up? Your statement makes no sense. Trump obviously wanted the same thing, only he wanted HIS name to be on it for political gain. He WAS willing to hold up our country as long as it took until he could take credit.

Luckily, someone pulled him aside (again) and explained to him the optics of claiming absolute power, and how he would (again) show the voters that he has no clue. Lucky for him, someone told him he can't blame it on others if he claims absolute power.

So it's a mixed win: Governors get to open their states as they see fit, which is what the constitution implies anyway, but Trump once again has a scapegoat if it goes wrong, and will claim it was his idea (you know, the one he tried to use his "absolute power to stop") if it goes right.

What's even more laughable is him flip-flopping agian, he is now saying that he is "authorizing" states to make that decision. He didn't authorize it, the Constitution did. What an idiot he is....

Trump has played the Media and other TDS sufferers to demand states rights, states rights, states rights...and when things go to crap, these Dim Governors made the decision...brilliant.

That's fair, but every single state in the country is heavily dependent on federal funding. Not one of them is self-sufficient. You're a member of the proud minority if you manage to only rely on the federal government for under 30% of your funding. https://taxfoundation.org/states-rely-most-federal-aid/

I'm a Libertarian. Not the weird melding where some Republicans and Democrats cherry pick a few things they like and leave the rest. Actually Libertarian. I think that the federal government got way too big for it's britches well over a century ago. The one big downside of the Civil War was that it stripped the states of so much of their power and never gave it back. It was worth it to free the slaves by miles, but still a pretty big negative unforeseen consequence. I'm all for a balanced budget amendment at the federal level, a massive downsize of the federal government, closure of all military bases outside the USA, etc. Government should be smaller than it is and only temporarily grow very large when there is a crisis. The trouble is, the more power you have, the more you tend to cling onto it. Governments grow bigger over time. They rarely shrink. We are where we are because the American people tend to not pay attention to things. We started out with an amazing Constitution and it's been under attack ever since.

Trump played the Dems masterfully. He knew the quickest way to relieve himself of future blame for more CV deaths was to say he was in charge of re-opening the country knowing Dems would pitch a fit. It worked! Now it's the Dems who will be targeted for every death that happens during the recovery. Trump plays chess, Dems play checkers.

Truthfully, I haven't a prayer to offer for this country.
"Doddering simp?" Don't you mean President Biden?

It's a done deal.

You have to understand how things work.

Many Liberals and Independents couldn't stomach Hillary, but they can stomach Biden, whom they see as Obama-lite.

Those 77,400 Liberals and Independents who held their noses and voted against Hillary -- which is not the same thing as voting for Trump -- will gladly vote for Biden.

I predict Biden wins both the popular vote and the Electoral College. It will be a bloodbath. Not like Reagan/Carter or Reagan/Mondale, more like Bush/Dukakis.

I predict Biden won't make it to election day. He's a very sick man.

And THAT (not Costco - LOL) is what is wrong with America. We have approximately 40% of our population who thinks it's a GOOD thing for our POTUS to "Play the Dems" for political gain, at the expense of human life and economic hardship.

That says everything anyone needs to know about him, his base, and certainly anyone who would gloat about this.

And BTW Skeddy, I think you are 100% right on everything you said in the quoted post. You see it as a good thing, I see it differently. I guess we each have our own value systems..... Congrats.

Alrighty then.

Why didn’t the Fed issue a national Stay at Home order?

Why would Wyoming, where one’s closest neighbor is a half a mile away and public transportation is very limited take the same action as a densely populated area, with robust public transportation?

Nonsense. From day 1 of his administration Trump has said he has, or should have, total power as president. In this case, as Myghost suggested, he realized, or more likely had explained to him, that claiming absolute power over the pandemic response might not be such a good idea. So he changed his mind as he has hundreds of times before when reality intrudes on his fantasy of being a Kim Jong-un type dictator.
