But still the attraction is gambling. What other reason is there to visit Vegas? The climate? The scenery? The culture?
Yes, yes and yes. In the 20 years before I lived here I came in 3 or 4 times a year. Various conventions. For the last few years I would fly home to LA every night on the corporate jet.
The entertainment options obviously are a big attraction and have become much more important compared to gaming over the last decades.
In 2018 45% of the visitors claimed they came for pleasure or entertainment. About 7% came to gamble. And the average gaming budget by visitors was a little over $200.
So yes gaming is important to the Strip. But less so than other revenue generators.

Guess you've never been to Vegas - I have friends that go just to experience it. They have some of the best shows, best food and enough free things to do that you never have to even go into a casino. So much hate here when each and everyone of you have some vice. As long as the money is not coming out of your pocket - if people want to gamble - let them.
I really thought we had a more tolerant society - especially with all the Democrats. Curse people who work to make their money, curse how they spend it, curse how many jobs they provide because of their love of gambling, but applaud illegals crossing the border. I'm sure from the amt of slappers on the strip - many of those illegals are in bad shape - so you are not only condemning Americans - you're condemning the illegals that live and work in Vegas.
The Las Vegas mayor was on with Anderson Cooper this afternoon.
She probably should never give another nationally televised interview and to say she came across as horribly misinformed would be an understatement.

Pathetic really!
It's just another town wanting business to open.
They are making a trade off. Income vs. contaminating tourist and employees.
Guess you would put me in the liberal column. I have been actively against illegals being hired by American business owners since 1974.
Just like the momma in 'Hair' instructed the kids. Be whatever you want, do whatever you want to do. Just don't hurt anybody. That has been the mantra of the Ds I know.

I saw her on a different station yesterday.
She is echoing her constituents, most of whom, are employed in the service and trade show industries and likely live paycheck to paycheck.
Despite her insistence on reopening, neither the airport nor the the Strip is located in Las Vegas.
Frankly, the whole shebang could open tomorrow. The trade shows and tourists are going to be very wary.
