The issue isn't really the death rate but the number of seriously ill needing skilled (hospital) care, basically, all at once and the fact that there are no treatments for the disease. As more have been hospitalized physicians have found determinants that forecast health outcomes and have tried various strategies to preserve life, I recommend the recent This Week in Virology podcasts.

N.Y. is old, cold, years of unfiltered air, all types of paint on the walls, plumbing pipes -boiler pipes - probably full of smut, and rat droppings- in a tight city - compared to smoggy but sunny CA .
