I don't think people understand. We aren't magically opening up. We are opening up slowly. The major metros might be the last to open up (notice I say might). Our cases are going up, we just have a plan, that's all. And, NO we don't want any more people from New York and California moving in and messing the place up. Terrible thread, leave us alone.
Don't really care what you do about the scam response and consequences to the "virus" just don't come to Texas. It's getting way too crowded down here.
hey if NY is out of business for months, America will just do business elsewhere in the country. Most commerce will be conducted in Southern states. This pandemic may have permanent negative business consequences for the Northeast corridor.
I dont know about NYers moving to Texas, but my guess is that more people will decide to leave NY and NJ. Plus many restaurants and other entertainment venues will not reopen. People will be forced to leave to find jobs.
It's not that simple. NYC is one of the most expensive areas to run a business, but there's still a lot of businesses there. There's a lot of factors in addition to cost and pandemic risk.
Certain businesses like entertainment, restaurants, and tourism aren't going to get up and move. No one's going to travel to Wichita Kansas for a restaurant. When it comes to other industries, the reality is that there's pockets in the US that have all the educated talent. NYC is one of them (as is Boston, Charlotte, and many others). Companies will continue to flock to these areas until the population pattern changes (which is always happening, but takes a very long time).
Hilarious post.
Alliance Bernstein went from NYC to Nashville. UBS, btw, has more Nashville jobs than NYC & Stamford, Ct combined now.
Carl Icahn is moving his NY firm to Florida.
