Coronavirus is dangerous due to how highly contagious it is, but the death rate is actually very very low, killing mostly older people with health issues. Ebola is not nearly as contagious, but much more deadly with a 50% death rate!! Just imagine how bad this would be Corona was as deadly like other virus pandemics. Its hard to imagine.

Yes it's almost as if pathogens that are both highly contagious and very deadly are extremely rare because they are too effective at killing off the hosts that support them.

We did dodge a bullet on Ebola, but it was only spread by contact and not as contagious but certainly more deadly. We were lucky it didn't originate in China and were able to send health care teams to address the epidemic early on.

That’s a good point. Corona also doesn’t show symptoms for many, so that makes it easier to spread.

Ebola is also a particularly horrid and painful way to die. It essentially attacks and eventually liquifies internal organs and you bleed (and other things) out of every orifice in your body, including your eyes-all while in excruciating pain.

The media is making it far more deadlier than anything humans ever faced.

We have posters running around lecturing us that this is our "Pearl Harbor"... I agree, the media is responsible for most of this hysteria.

19 years ago they turned this normal activity involving a mere half-dozen or so injuries\deaths into a frenzy of coverage for ratings so meet the new boss...same as the old boss.

Look at the vaping deaths coverage too. Illegal drug cartridges. Probably lost that many kids to cell phone driving in one day.

If COVID-19 were as deadly as Ebola, the effect on the country could be absolutely devastating; potentially far worse than the H1N1 outbreak in 1918. But, unlike COVID-19, Ebola doesn't become contagious until symptoms appear. This makes contact tracing much more effective. Thus, with any kind of effective medical system, you've got a decent shot at containment. There's also a tested vaccine available for Ebola.
