Are the rules treating all parties equally? It sounded to me like they were offering up an exemption just for Islam and just for Ramadan. It certainly sounds like they're going to really blast this thing out so everyone can hear it at great distances.
If a bunch of heavy metal enthusiasts asked the city for a permit, would they get one and be able to be just as loud? What about Christian churches blasting out their Sunday sermons, which I'd already mentioned? Hindus? Pagans? Buddhists?
That's the big unknown here. And the bigger question is this: What's the point in having noise ordinances in the first place? If you just need a license to violate them, then what's the point?
Present evidence of differential treatment. Sermons make for a bad example, because the adhan lasts what - 90 seconds?
And again: The ordinance is not being violated. Permit porcess gos as follows: You ask City Hall "Is my intended action within the ordinances?" City Hall ponders the question and either say "Yes, here's your permit" or "No, we view it as a violation of the ordinances".
And when it comes to expressions of religion, it's worth noting that both free speech and religion are important enough to get their spot in the very first amendment.

The liberals I know are tolerant of all faiths and even of those who declare no faith.
Sure there are those on the left and right that are intolerant --- but to assign attributes to such large groups is simplistic, ignorant, naive and just plain ridiculous.
I can't get riled up about the Muslims in Minneapolis who have asked for conessions for their call to prayer given the pandemic crisis.

Is THAT what is going on? I’ve wondered for months why liberals have suddenly taken to defending Muslims, even when they say hateful things (don’t get me started on Omar and Tlaib), so is that it? Because they see them as a minority, thus they go on auto-pilot to defend them no matter what?

I don't really know - I'm a peaceful type, but when someone gets a specific right to broadcast religious doctrine in public places, or even your own bedroom, then you're a victim of religious oppression.

5 a.m. is very typical, depending on where in the month you are. Remember, the sun is rising earlier and earlier, so by the end of the month, it can be at 5 a.m., or even a few minutes earlier. I couldn’t find the schedule for Michigan, but here’s one that shows how early the first prayer is.
