Its really quite flattering how concerned so many people here are about a state they don’t even live in. Y’all are just too kind, sharing so much concern for us Texans.
Native / life long Texan here. I think opening up before cresting over the peak because some lap-dog politician said so is absolute moronic ignorance. I see way too many (stupid) people in town ignoring all precautions as if we were able to just flip the virus off like a light switch.

The reason to open up is because the medical system was not significantly stressed by the number of COVID-19 cases, you open things back up because the system can take an increase and it relieves pressure on the economy and those hurt most by this, the poor.
"Flattening the curve" was never about limiting the total number of cases, it was about making sure that there weren't so many cases all at once so that the medical system would be overrun. When Texas found out there was no risk of that, it made sense to start opening back up.
Texans still have the option to wait it out at home awhile longer. That’s what we’re doing. That’s OUR choice. Other people get to make that choice for themselves.
LOL then you shouldn't be mad at Abbot who has done a stellar job thus far, you should be mad at the Navajos who are putting your family members in danger. They'd be much safer in Texas which has an infection rate nearly half that of New Mexico and a death rate that is less than half of what they have going on in New Mexico.

You’re complaining about cases of C-19 occurring in New Mexico just because they’re in counties next to the Texas border? We’re supposed to take you seriously?

if we were "all" on the same curve, then you would have had the highest curve about April 21-30.
since COVID had barely arrived in between CA, CHI, and NE, all those other states. NY's new cases peaked very quickly - around April 4 with a couple of one/two day spikes since. PA's at least 2 weeks after that. LA immediately on Apr 2. CA may not have even hit their peak yet, but May 5 looks like a decent date.
Undoubtedly, a state that has had little effect (no real upward curve yet) but decent population would be expected to see an upward curve at some point.
Not sure what you are saying. Of course different states are at different time points.
The point is, changing the parameters, changes the curve. Not only in terms of a peak and a duration, but also the total size of the epidemic.
