NYC has had so many COVID-19 deaths that they needed refrigerated trucks to store the bodies at both hospitals and funeral homes. They were so overwhelmed that they've been doing mass burials in potter's field on Hart Island.

OP---You were wondering where the "mass casualties" are, well there's ^^^^your answer.

For those who say this is no worse than the flu, name one city in the US that, during flu season, had to use refrigerated trucks to store the bodies of victims.

* The situation is well under control everywhere. Maybe there were some localized cases in Italy where numbers exceeded hospital capacity for a short period of time, but this happens every year.

* There has been no country where the numbers shoot up for more than a few weeks. All follow the same trend of a curve of 1-2 months which is typical of respiratory viruses.
Take another look at South Korea today. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world...JY0?li=AAggFp5

So you're not old enough to remember all those flag draped coffins arriving back on the tarmac during the Vietnam war. That caused a national uproar and there were "only" 58,000 deaths spread over ten years or so.

Unnecessary deaths of their fellow citizens used to cause people far more concern than today's spoiled brats..

* USA: Too early to say, 0.02% death rate overall

Are there any countries where the overall death rate has exceeded 0.1% of the population?

The overall death rate for the world is 0.003%.

Now there 195 countries in the world. You would think that, given how many countries and not done any type of shutdown, and given how contagious and deadely we are lead to believe the virus is, there would be at least 1 example where the virus had caused the situation we were told about where gazillions are sprawling on the streets dying while stadiums are filled with used hospital beds.

How about Lagos, Nigeria (pictured below)? You would think the virus hasn't hit there? Imagine how much it would (supposedly) spread and how many people would die.

"It's going to come back 2x as bad in Fall/Winter!" Ok, so the chance of surviving this virus goes from 99.997% to 99.994%? Scary!
How many you need to get your approval for it being a real pandemic?

But Cancer is NOT contagious from on person to another- 2- passed by unknown carriers- or killing so many folks in a short time frame.

just stop it. Maybe wont be happy until you see someone you -----

Many prior posts exist here on C-D blaming politicians from decades ago for China manufacturing N95 masks instead of American based companies , as one of the reasons for the mask shortage, and they stated this wasn't Trump's fault.

Ends up this US based N95 mask manufacturer offered the US Government in January 2020 to open additional production lines to create many millions of N95 masks per month. I guess this US based mask manufacturer didn't donate enough money to the Republican party, so the Trump administration ignored his offer to beef up production of masks for the USA and instead the Trump admin hand picked other companies that donated huge amts of money to Republicans. As a result, the USA got fewer masks, for 5x the price, and a longer wait time.

All the PPE suppliers were hand picked by Kuschner's team, based on tips from GOP politicians and members of Trump's staff. The US Government only signed contracts with big GOP donors. This mask company could have provided more masks, earlier, for a massive costs savings to the US taxpayers. Trump's team chose politics over saving money and saving American lives.

Last year 2,813,503 people died in America. Roughly a death rate of 863 per 100,000 people.

Of those, heart disease was #1 at 647,457

If you took the two categories of Chronic Respiratory Illness (160,201 dead) and influenza/pneumonia (55,672) totaling 215,873 deaths, well Corona Virus may increase that little bit, but, I really don't see this is being anything more that "slightly above average" figures

Whatever it takes. Why do you want people to subject themselves to the virus

70,000 deaths (USA) aren't enough for you?

This episode of Sesame Street is brought to you by the letter's "E" and "P" and the number "12."

The definition of epidemic is more disease than anticipated in a given time frame in a specific locale.

So, how's that work?

One person showing up in a one of China's 33,000 hospitals in September with influenza-like symptoms is not an epidemic.

12 people showing up over the course of a month in hospitals in October in Hubei Province is not an epidemic.

12 people showing up during the month of November in a single hospital in Wuhan is not an epidemic.

But, 16 people showing up at a single hospital within 72 hours all with the same symptoms is an epidemic.

The word "pan" means wide-spread. When we prefix "epidemic" with "pan" we mean that is is wide-spread, which means it could be State-wide, region-wide, continental or the whole world.

Regarding casualties, I know a fireman who looks after the fire.

When a house catches fire, you can do nothing and let it burn down and then hope it doesn't spread to other buildings, or you can intervene.

If you intervene in a timely manner, you can put the fire out before it does a lot of damage and before it spreads to other structures.

That's why you don't have mass casualties, because there was intervention to reduce casualties.
